Dogbone and engine mounts

  Clio 182
Hi, I have changed my dogbone mounts for uprated powerflex bushes on my 182 and I am in the process of ordering some K-Tec uprated mounts for the top engine and gearbox mounts.

I have fitted the dogbone bushes and apart from the usual vibration at idle, I have notice and bad vibration through the car in 1st, 2nd and 3rd when under load. It doesnt happen under gentle acceleration, only when I put my foot down.

Could it be the other mounts are shot with increased load on them?

I haven't yet tried the trick of pulling the engine forward as I will be fitting new mounts soon.

One other thing I have noticed when I went back under the car to check is the manifold is almost touching the anti-rollbar (gap amount 2mm).

It does feel like the manifold maybe coming into contact with the subframe or something.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Russ.

Yes you can, doesn't take too much effort either!, I thought this was normal to a point?

I have noticed that the rubber in the top mount that's supposed to touch the outside bit of metal doesn't touch of the front, only the back.

Car has done 74k and I have had it since 30k and none of the mounts have ever been changed since I have owned it.

After doing a bit more reading, it seems that some 182's came with a 'dent' in the manifold to clear the ARB. It looks like mind does'nt have this dent, although can't confirm until tomorrow.

One thing I thought was strange is that the old bush I took out had an offset hole (attached). This made me think that this was done to pull the bottom of the engine backwards to help lift the manifold clear, ot it's a defect!!. I didn't get the knocking with the standard dogbone bushes, but it kept trying to push out of gear, which is why I replaced them!

I'm hoping that by replacing the top mount and gearbox mount with the uprated k-tec items and pulling the top of the engine forward, the manifold will hopefully clear the ARB.

Anyone else had this?

The question is, do I change for top mounts for the uprated K-Tec ones, or do I hold off and change the manifold for one that has this dent.

Because I am now thinking I should take the poly bushes back out and go back to standard as I didn't have vibrations and knocking anywhere near as bad as I do now.

you may find the top engine mount has split. mine was ok, but put the dogbone one on and after a week it got bad again so i removed the top mount and it was split in two. got a replacement (2nd hand) one off of a low mileage wrecker on ebay :).

I had a look at the top mount and I can see a couple of small pieces of rubber that have come away from somewhere, so I am guessing it is coming apart. Problem seems to also be my manifold doesnt have the dent in that apparently it should have had from the factory to allow clearance for the ARB, so this isn't helping either!
