Driving Position 172/182 6ft 3s +

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
I'm 6ft 3ins and have always driven the 172 with the seat as far back as possible, as low as it will go and with the steering wheel as high as possible (mainly so I get a full few of the dials). Although recently I have started thinking that maybe the steering wheel is too high for me to reach comfortably, I've noticed I can lower it a couple of ' notches ' as it were and it could potentially give me a better position (haven't tested yet). How does everyone else have theirs setup?

im about 6ft 1 and my seat is nearly all the way down (about 2 notches up) and wheel is just set until its comfortable (close to the top)

also all the way back?!

mine is pretty far forward as my knee's are pretty close to the dash (god help me if i crash!)

I was just thinking about this when i was out a few mins ago after watchin some track vid this afternoon ( with helmets on ) .There would be no way i could fit a helmet on my head in my driving position .

I'm 6'1" , and i have my seat as far back as possible , with the seat as far up as i can , my heads about 1 inch from touchin the roof and i have the steering wheel so i can just see the bottom of the 70 - 80mph on the speedo . It always takes me ages to get the right position again if somebody else has been behind the wheel .My left knee just touches the gearstick when i'm in 5th .

5' 11" and seats about 2/3s the way back, seat as low as possible and wheel as low as it goes, alright for me :D

I have the seat mostly streight up and wheel mostly down, find I can handle the car a lot better than in it's highest position:cool:

yeah thats what i'm thinking, if the wheel is lower down i think it will give a better postion to control the car better when going for gold.

I'm 6'3 with wheel as low as possible, seat isn't as far back as possible otherwise my arms feel over stretched. Got a 35' inside leg too so not as if i've got short legs..

I'm 6ft, size 13 feet. Have the seat as low as it will go and nearly as far back as it will go on the rails. I do have the steering wheel at its lowest setting, always used to have it raised but I find driving better with it low now, someone suggested it and I haven't looked back!

Im 6ft and have the seat as far down as it will go and not far off as far back as it goes. I dont have a problem with the driving position and i find it quite comfortable

low wheel blocks the view of the dials and hits my knees i find though, looking at the car I can only really tug the wheel down two ' notches ' before blocking the dials.

seats go lower in 172 though IIRC

seats are the same in all new clios (apart from the 1.2 8V)

i'm 5ft 11 and never found the std seating position comfortable, i now have buckets that are further back and much lower down

I think seating is one of the most important factors in buying a car, yet no one really pays that much attention to it. Its all 0-60 times, bhp per tonne, and price.

When i buy a car i sit in it. If im not 100% comfortable i walk away.

i'm also 6ft3

I have the seat all the way back and as low as poss, its still too high by a fair bit but it is pretty comfy, just not the most planted driving position.

As for the wheel, i cant have it at its lowest as my knees / thighs would hit it.

I'm 6ft 3" and have a similar driving position to yourself, I've never had a problem with a helmet :)

6'4" and have the seat back as far as it goes and the wheel as low as it will go to. Legs either side as it does catch as Rory says. Like others have said does obsecure the dials but sod that! Feels crap any other way.
