Renault Clio S
Towards the end of February my aging MK1 1.2 Clio Oasis was stolen from a public car park while I was out gleefully shopping with my good lady. Naturally, we were quite surprised by the theft as our trusty companion wasn’t exactly a desirable model, what with its white going on battleship grey paint job, squeaky breaks that made your fillings pop out, broken sunroof, dodgy clutch, and rusty steel rims. All that was left was a patch of broken glass on the tarmac from the passenger side window.
After a 3 mile walk home laden with shopping and a trip to the local police station to report the theft, the insurance company thankfully paid up within a week and we have now moved up the Clio ownership ladder to a more respectable MK2 1.4S
However, the car is still AWOL and the reason behind the theft still bugs me to this day. It was hardly going to be much fun joy riding it, and pretty useless as a getaway car. Besides, either of these two activities would result in it being abandoned and recovered within a few days. Stolen for spare parts maybe? But that’s only about £50 from an unscrupulous scrap dealer. Obviously, the broken window could not be replaced because of the vehicle tracking ID number, so I can only assume that the thief was after the vehicles identity.
As yet, no speeding tickets or unpaid fines have come through the post in my name, but has anyone here had a similar experience or perhaps even had their car recovered after a theft. Bad experience aside, it stills brings a smile to my face every time it rains knowing that the sunroof leaks like a power-shower and some thieving git is getting a thoroughly deserved soaking as a result.
