E36 328 enhancement

I've been meaning to write this for a while but I've had to put it off due to a combination of stag do and Flickr throwing a paddy when uploading pics. @Danith gave me his near immaculate 328 to bring some life back into the paint by removing the minor swirls and marring and dressing the worn plastics.

Drop off

The trim all over the car had residue on it.

The old wheels were on as the new ones were getting new rubber. I think they looked awesome though.

It's a very purposeful looking car

It was clearly very well protected

The car was rinsed, sprayed with RDS, left to dwell while I did the wheels with imperial. Sprayed everything off then washed with lather.

Bringing me to TARdis vs @Auto Finesse obliTARate

TARdis

Oblitarate on the passanger side.

Left to dwell for a bit and sprayed off

I'm not sure whether obliTARate was more LSP friendly as that side seemed to sheet more than the tardis'd side.

The car was then rinsed and hit with iron x. After that did its job it was rinsed again and washed with lather ready for clay.

The only bit of contamination on the bonnet

The rest of the car was fairly clean with just the odd bit of bonded contamination here and there.

It was rinsed again and dried.

Then I had a look at the extent of the swirls and marring

Much of the same over the whole car, nothing too severe, just enough to hide the depth and flake in the paint.

It is an amazing colour though.

I ended up settling on g3 scratch remover

Genuinely cracking colour.

After I was done with the polishing I gave it a once over with auto finesse ultra glaze.

Then it was given a coat of auto finesse desire

Aaaand then it rained.

When it finished spitting I went back to finish.

Plastics and glass given an IPA wipedown

And topped with auto finesse revive

And the exhausts were given a going over with autosol to get rid of the build up of crap

The sun was out the following day for dan to pick up the car. It really showed off the colour.

The car was an absolute pleasure to work on, it's a genuinely well looked after and near mint example for its age. I had it clean in record time

It's really my go to polish now, it cuts brilliant and finishes really well. It's almost as dusty as the auto finesse polishes though. I use the auto finesse cutting pad.

I found this oddly soft, like, really soft. Did they change it at any point?

Our E34 so would've been a 92 car was soft as well which surprised me that my DA removed a lot of the marks especially after being told BMW paint was rock hard so I'm going to guess that it must have changed later on!

Super shiny though and big difference - so top marks, that headlight was really annoying me! Just need some refurbed wheels now and the gutted exhaust from @Jȯrd and it's sorted. Put a resprayed debadged despoilered boot on since too, wasn't sure but it's growing on me.

Not yet. I'll get some on saturday when I get it to my mums for a wash again and might finally have a replacement Xperia rather than this crappy galaxy s3.

Wheels didn't fit either, well they did but only with stretched tyres so the originals are on for now but got some M3 motorsports to get powdercoated and chucked on for winter so I can get a set of these refurbed.

Good work mate. One thing tar removers aren't LSP safe, the sheeting is actually the tar remover, spray tardis on a panel and PW of and the water will sheet!

Oh and old BMW is softer as they weren't using ceramic clearcoat at the time.

I wouldn't say it clung longer, just different ingredients. You don't want a great cling with a tar remover, especially if it has a chance of drying. No no no! I apply to a wet/damp car and go round with a blue MF applicator spray also with tardis.

I think it's very hard to replicate Tradis performance because of the chemicals involved and i've tried a lot.

Desire is auto finesses flagship wax and as such, it offers brilliant gloss, depth and durability while being foolproof to use.

A few people have reviewed it on here from the AF test panel

De badged and de spoilered. Polished and waxed today.

New wheels going on soon - m3 motorsports refurbished in graphite for winter.

Some stone chips on boot as guy I bought the boot off dropped it! Tried touch up but looks gash. Sand and spray?
