ECU Remap Tune Offer £175 to take 182 to 200bph???

Hello all, may have seen a couple of my posts in different sections. Only joined last night and only purchased 182 last night. Need a couple of jobs doing on mine but i am intending to take good care of my new pride and joy!

Just checked out Quickr Remap in Cannock. They are offering ECU Remapping for £175 this month. There website says a 182 remap will take it to nearly 200bph. They can do 172 aswell which takes it up a few bph's.
Lifetime software warranty too!

Sounds a great deal but just wondered what everyones experience is with ECU remapping the 182's!

Your 182 will be making about 170bhp standard and won't gain much peak from a remap, so I wouldn't touch someone making such claims as they are lying to you.

I had my 182 mapped by RSTuning who are known to be very good, I gained 6bhp. So claims of 20bhp are miles off!!

The performance is through the entire rev range and they are meant to be taken from average results. So remapping your only looking at an approx 6bhp increase and thats with a specialist?

Does the driverability change much, smoother power output etc?? I am intreaged to whether an ecu remap would be worth it or not?

I want the best out of my new toy but not silly mods.

It's not the OP's fault. He's just got his Clio, has seen a bold claim and wants to check it out first. Silly thread is not so silly?


If you haven't got the gist of it already, baaaasssiiicccally the 172/182 engines are that well designed and so they have to come pretty highly tuned as standard in order to make the 172/182ish name. Therefore it is very VERY expensive to get meaningful gains (200 BHP usually means cams, exhaust, remap, matched inlets and headwork etc or ITBs if you've £2000 spare) On top of this the "172/182" is actually HP and not BHP. It translates to about 166/172 BHP respectively. Add in the usual car manufacturer's optimism and most RS Clios when dyno'd put out about 160 to 175 BHP. To complicate things even further rolling roads only approximate engine power, therefore some under read and some will over read. usually they over read if you've just bought a load of parts from that company, funny that...

Silly thread is not silly, BUT the above is the funniest load of twaddle I've read in a long time.

OP - Welcome, enjoy the new toy, but don't bother with a remap if you think you'll see any more than a handful of peak power horses.

Plenty of info on the site to tell you the best things bang for buck mod wise.

My advice ?

Don't bother. Clio 1*2's are OK power-wise for what it is.

If you want a fast car, go buy one :evil:

£5 million is what a Renault main dealer will charge for a new ECU on a Clio 1*2 'innit? Or is that just for a new UCH.

My point exactly, and who the hell buys a 1*2 to immediately think 'muurrrr, this isn't fast enough'. Because I'm pretty sure for the same money you could've bought something that is much faster (albeit in a straight line). Fiddling for fiddlings sake FTL!

I like, even if it is a tad hairdresser.

I don't really understand spending £1000s to try and get a 1*2 to 200bhp, why don't you just go buy a car with a bigger engine + more power as standard? Seems like a waste of money to me, never going to get the money back.

lol I don't know any hairdressers who could handle 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. Aha!

And you're bang on with that statement, RenaultSport cars are not about raw power.

If u want to do engine work for reasonable monies, then Ported inlets, espace v6 airbox and rs tuner remap are well regarded and should give u better pull through midrange. Engine aside, consensus on best mod is a whiteline rear arb. Then coilovers or eibach springs. If u can live with it, lightening the car (ie rear seats out) is as good as a power gain.

Hi guys thanks for your advice and info. Ive only just brought it but being as im from Cannock heard about this and thought i would generally check out about remapping on the 182's. Ive had this car as a new toy. Wanted some fun and my god its fun. I love it!

Brand new to the forum and just wanted some experienced honest advice.
This forum is very very usefull!

I will get some pics up of my new toy soon. Just after some standard 182 wheels for it as the guy who had it before put some after market wheels on which im not to keen on although i got a reciept for 800 quid for them.

Keep me posted if anyones selling any i would be interested.

I agree with TEG though, keep the Clio pretty standard, concentrate on it's asset (handling) if anything. If you want power, go find some boost!

Are they Halfords specials ? 17"+ ?

eBay.

Unless they are an OEM+ wheel, which I'm betting they aren't..... if you don't like them, I doubt anyone on here will. ;)

Pl8yer, as has been said, best things if you want to piss about enginewise are the RS Tuners. You can map your own car, then sell the unit on, meaning your remap costs you about £50-£60.

Then concentrate on the bits that stick you to the road........ tyres and suspension.

The car is what it is, just go enjoy it

A sense of perspective is probably why the design of the website is being the last thing mentioned about this shoddy company, Sargara.
