Or maybe it's Steve's fault for not investing in surge protection? :rasp:

No comment! I run all mine through a UPS for protection and time to save my documents!

How'd you get a PSU that quick?! Cos I don't think ATX ones work in Dells?

  A blue one.
I've seen a UPS take out some servers.

It was back in the novell era, never seen so many worried faces. Turns out when the server ran its backup, it logged in across the network to the machine machine. Unfortunately the login it was using was logged in somewhere else on the network and the backup login failed, and it obviously couldn't backup. Drives had to go off to a recovery company, not sure what the outcome was because I'd left by the time they'd returned.

Effin power company were turning it on/off nearly all morning from 6.00 am, not just a one off

Mike, will get a genuine one asap just needed to get back up quick. As this one is rather loud?

Unusual. Dells usually go up in a puff of smoke when you plug an ATX one in, as they use a proprietary power connection on 99% of machines. If you're using an ATX one you're a very lucky man...
