Engine cleaning question

JMR

Car  RB 182 Cup
Is it best to disconnect the battery when you're degreasing and hosing the engine?

I will only have the hose set to fine spray.:)

Gonna put some foil over the main electrical bits.

Yup:approve:

Only a tickle on the Clio though;)

I'm doing a red VW Polo where the paintworks gone pink for someone, and they want to sell it as soon as its had a bit of attention, I dont want to hose the engine down and then not be able to start it!!!

Hehe im sure you'll be fine with that mate, isnt vag paint ment to be really hard paint?

Yeah it is reasonably hard,

As for the engine bay , If your worried cover battery and any visible gaps to (coils)Plugs etc

In the VW tho i would just sprinke some foam in there then wipe down with a damp rag shoul do the trick with some AG EAMC .

Not on a 'P' Reg I dont think. Am I right in thinking that its not got a clearcoat? Hence the bad discolouration.

Nowadays Adam, yes, VAG paint on the missus' red car [2004] was a bast4rd to correct!

 Nice one TeZ. I have some EAMC and some spray bottles with rinse water too.

I think most red cars seem to discolour ive seen a few quite new cars with roof and bonnet discolouring
cant help you about it having a clearcoat,at a guess i thought all cars are clearcoated?

JMR for a good long lasting product on all black plastics ETC sourch yourself some 303 Aero that stuff is the bee'z knee'z

I've been after some of that! AG V&R at mo.

Adam, my last ride before the 172......not pink;) Bomb-proof car, what a great engine that had.

Red has no clearcoat on it which is why it's prone to oxidation.

I'd be careful about hosing the engine tbh, better off using a vapouriser and working on small areas at a time. After you've finished take it out for a rag and dry it all out.

Horse on! it's french and will break if you breath on it! I power washed mine frequently. Never had a problem!

Thats what I thought with the spray bottles with clear water in. Just in case;)

Got a couple of afters but not particularly good ones, just after a quick wipe down - will be getting a proper one over Christmas as looking at it during its MOT today it was a bit minging!

Sadly there seems some metal corrosion on the engine head I think it is, that simply won't come off short off using a very strong acid but not going to risk putting that anywhere near fragile plastic wiring looms!
