Odd thing to say?

I was merely a pointing out that sensibly priced cups still exists. I didn’t advertise the car or offer it up to anyone. The person who purchased one of my phase 1s clocked onto to it and that’s what he offered. As I had other plans I thought why not.
I must of misunderstood you then, just you said cups have had their day.
personally I disagree, and I think they are and will always be desirable, more so than a ph1, but that's IMO of course. time will tell.

I can't believe it's £300 to tax the Exclusive! (Y reg) a year. The Meg 4RS is £140, my smoky old shitbox Peugeot 407SW is £220

Having seen @Ant1 sunny in the flesh, I would have paid him 13k for it... which I said at the time. Let's remember its 1 of 14 made in that model/colour and is MINT.

Think ph1s in the next 5 years will rocket in price... 10 years time they will be stupid money

I'm not knocking it. But it's only mint now as it has had work done and paint. It certainly was not mint when TEG bought it and it was the technicolour dream car!

Why would that make a difference?

You think all mark 1&2 escorts have been mint all there lives? 😂

Have you seen the amount of polished turds 172/182s that claim that they are mint? 😂🤷‍♂️ At least I can say mine is and mean it.

It's a no brainer that if a car's recently been fully resprayed, it's going to be mint.
If you keep it for the ten years like you plan to, it won't make much of a difference then (like those Escorts you mention)

We all know that if a car has been resprayed it does not mean it’s suddenly a minter. I’m fortunate with this one that somebody actually gave a s**t and done it so well that it looks factory. Only reason I purchased the sunny was due to the above.

Anyhow way off topic now.

Not really they will still be in my possession in ten years time. Everything will be driving itself by then. At least there will be something left to remind us how hot hatches were once built!

This is very true, good on you.

  A terrible one
I think an exclusive would be a great place to put your money...if it had a phase 2 interior and phase 2 rear lights and different wheels :giggle:

I agree with Richard on this, the cars on here for sale are to cheap, look what all these old Fords are selling for and they was rubbish compared to a 182. Even the storm grey and alien green etc 200,s will come collectable very quickly and well looked after earlier models are going to raise in value.

It's demand though ultimately. Old Fords fetch big money because so many people want them. You can advertise a Clio for £50k if you want but, if no one is willing to spend £50k on one, you'll never sell it. The market decides prices, not any of us.

Plus old fords are proper mega!

Agreed. A sporty Clio is better than old fast Fords in every objective way, but the feeling of the steering wheel of a chipped RS Turbo squirming in your hands as it tries to put its power down is something to be savoured.

Rarely the best cars in class, but great fun all the same.

Some interesting views in this thread - coincidentally I have just picked up a low mileage Ph1 - mileage is 44k and 100% standard (tape deck makes me feel like a kid again!). Needs some major things like belts/clutch/brakes but the shell and interior is mint so was a no brainer for the price. I will be doing all the work myself (over time - no rush) so just need to shell out for the parts.

I primarily bought it as a weekend toy and something to tinker with (although plan on keeping it standard), but did have one eye on future value in the hope that it won't be an absolute money pit (previously had a mk1 16v full on rally car but ran out of time/passion to keep up with the motorsport scene).

I’m sure any ph1 with low miles and good history will become a future classic 😎

Ph1s will do well, but the problem with the Exclusive is that it’s the least performance oriented variant of a famous-for-its-performance hot hatch. Yes it’s rare but if anything that means that they’ve been cared for more and have been lost at a slower rate than all the others.

I think as Ph1 prices continue to rise the Exclusives will get dragged up with them, but realistically when people buy old hatches, it’s because they remember it being the dog’s danglies in their youth, and who here can think back 20 years and realistically turn around and claim they wanted the one with the hearing aid interior?

People probably only want 309 GTi Goodwood's now as they probably can't find, or afford a good enough 205 GTi.
The same applies to Sierra Sapphire Cossies.

Maybe but people still want them 😂

If anyone can tell me what a mint low mile & owner saxo VTS will worth or even collectible in the future that would be grand!

interesting read, Ive been pondering the same question since i bought my cup last year. I'm currently in the process of making mine a good solid example, its done 88k and had 2 previous owners, I've decided if prices go up in the next year, im going to send it into storage.

I have turned down 8k for my exclusive and 13k for my sunny. Not dolly head offers either, they are genuine.

The Renault 5 GT Turbo scene laughed when I advertised my fooking mint phase 1 GT turbo for 9k a few years ago, sold. Resold it again a few years later for 13k with the same people saying it won’t sell.

Go figure.

Got pics of the Sunny? I’m assuming it’s a GTI-r going by the offer! My mate had a UK sunny, often wonder if it’s still alive (says sorn)

I should of taken the 13k! But that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
