Exhaust Blowing...questions

After the meet yesterday I noticed that my exhaust sounds a bit lairy this morning, can you confirm my worst fears, that I will need a new exhaust?
I'm kind of surprised becasue the car is not 3 year old yet (will be @ end of month - first MOT) and has only coved 20k...

And it's Monday too

It sounds like it's blowing from the exhaust pipe/backbox area as opposed to up front/Inlet Manifold area...It actually sounds pretty cool but I reckon it will deffo fail MOT...

btw how do you tell if the exhaust is blowing, is it really loud? I have a not so loud noise coming out of mine.

didn't think Exhaust was covered under 3 year warranty??? It would be well cool if it was...It sounds like a modified exhaust that's why I know there is a problem...BTW

might not be, but just had my centre section replaced and my car is 2 years old.

looks like I'm gonna have to take the plunge & put Lookers Renault Chester to the test, will get it booked in for an inspection...the lady on service reception Kim sounded pretty helpful so that's a good start...

Spoke to Renault - exhaust not covered...3 year warranty does not cover Exhaust (warranty for 2 years)...BUGGER
I'll go to a Tyre & Exhasut place & see what the damage is...

The exhausts on my 172 and 182 didn't even last 12 months. The one on the Trophy is starting to sound a bit louder so I'm sure that's not got long left in it.

It's hard to believe that there are still a few Williams and Valvers with the original system, when the current ones can't last 12 months.

dont but an other reanult one, its a pile of s**t! and they never last, get a k-tech stealth exhaust, some one is selling one in the for sale section, its a lilte louder than stock, breaths better and lasts forever, the one in for sale section is £120!! bargin<<<<<<<< renault one will be 350

Renault quoted me over 300 for an OE exhaust which I though was ridiculous....also comes on one section which means you can't just change the BB if it gets f**ked.

Better off with something like a stealth and will be less that OE even brand new.

Sounds great thanks all - K-Tech Stealth jobby sounds cool, it doesn't stick out the back though does it? I want to keep my car looking standard...don't want a ruddy double cherry bomb bus bore exhaust sticking out the back....I noticed the cup exhaust is slightly hidden so I'd like to keep it that way if poss - totally agree on the Renault OE Exhaust though - why pay all that money for something that you know is cack...

Just to underline what has already been said, my mk2 172 had 3 trips to Renault for exhaust issues. Luckily the first two were inside 2 years - I had two centre sections in 12 months!!!

Last one came when getting the brakes done - Very friendly guy at a local garage pointed out how bad Renaults workmanship was - Exhasut had been on 3 weeks and was blowing from flange infront of cat and a t join to rear box.

Found out it wasn't covered by warranty (and no one makes a patent 172 exhaust - OEM only!) and it was going to cost an arm and a leg for parts.

Got a stainless cat back from prospeed for £271 inc and have quite honestly never looked back. My missus and my mates think I'm a boy racer, but when you a hear a 172/182 with a decent exhaust on it you just can't refuse!!

Stealth is hidden mate. You won't see the tailpipe unless you look under the bumper. Here have a look...

The one on here has sold I reckon he could have sold it 3 times over looking @ the thread....
I've looked on E-Bay / Piston Heads etc and can't find another and can't afford to by a new stealth one...
My local man has had her on the ramps & we have had a look - needs a new backbox, Cat & Mid are OK so it looks like it's gonna have to be an OE backbox + link...gutted I missed the stealth one it would have been perfect and much better quality than then the Reggie Tat...

Sorry to winge but I can't beleive how poor some of the mechanicals are on these 'modern' Renaults...my neighbour's got a 5 year old Golf TDi 90 with over 100k on the clock and beleive it or not it's still on the original Clutch and Exhaust so he tells me - now I know the difference between my car & his is so vast that it is almost unassailable but my point is things like exhausts are a pretty standard think to make so why do Renault make crap ones and charge a bloody fortune for them???
Whilst I love my car dearly nothing put's me off a car more than shoddy engineering but I guess Renault needn't worry about the poor build quality of their cars compared to their rivals because idiots like me will keep on buying them :S (I'm on my 7th Renault)...Rant over better ring the bank up to arrange an extension of the already extended overdraft to pay the £180 to get the exhaust done...:dead:
