Extra security features mod for clio 182.

  Shhh

What stoplock can i fit to the clio 182.? Anyone else got extra security features...

Ideas please, and not Mr Bean steering wheel removal idea..

How much is a tracker, is it worth it. Is the alarm system any good.? What about a wheel clamp.?

All pointless unless u live in a mega rough car crime area. Tracker wouldnt be worth the cost IMHO and not much of a deterrent unless u get nice tracker stickers...which u could get without the tracker!

My honest view is that in the unlikely event that its stolen by a pro or stolen to order then nothing will stop them. Its proven the best theives are practically unstoppable.

If its going to be stolen by some chav boy racer then chances are it already has enough security to stop them bothering.

Just my opinion.

Simple cheap security measure:

Get some tracker fitted stickers and put them on your car

Keep a dog in the back

Remove a wheel and keep it in the house

Chain exhaust to a street drain

Sleep in car with baseball bat

Park it outside Mr Bigs house

Move house to a police station

IMO of course;)

Use a disklock. Covers the whole wheel, its a very good visual deterant and virtually impossible to remove without the key.

I think most of the steering/gear stick things are easily removable, once theyve mastered one, they can get the next one off in seconds im sure..

Im getting a Tracker fitted, except its not a Tracker...similar but its european wide, not just the UK. Ill try and remember who does it!

got clifford blackjax on mine, lets the thieves start the car with the keys and drive away but disables it after about 30secs.

Never liked trackers, you get the car back "undamaged" after some aresole has been driving round in it for several hours.

At the end of the day almost every car knicked with a Tracker gets back to its owner, its all very well having a nifty alarm but what happens if theyre on a roundabout when the car cuts out?

My dads SLK got nicked and it had a tracker, the police waited for the guy to park it (at a pub!) and then just took it back..no harm done.

Same as.

£70-80 at your local car shop, £44 at Costco.

Well worth it IMO.

yeah I use a silver Disklok too, along with the standard Cat1 alarm/Immob its very secure.

I cant agree the disklock and cat 1 are secure.

Disklock can be removed quietly in about 2mins according to a recent test in either what car or autoexpress.

The standard fit alarm is the same on all so one you know the cut in points its easy to disable.

Besides, most modern cars are stolen with the keys either taken from you or taken from your house.

Im seriously thinking about getting a basic tracker or adding my own imobiliasation. eg. hidden switch to either fuel pump or +12v supply to ECU. Thats the only thing that stopped my Sri Cav getting pinched 12 years ago. Had the ECU switched via a dummy heated seat switch.

Decto, when was it last tested, the last test I saw in auto express it easily won with over 10 mins worth of attack?

Theres no way a Disklok would be removed in two mins (show me the proof). I was told by two reliable sources (one a security shop and the other my old mate who used to steal cars) that they are by far the best.

I use a Disklok, Mul-t-lok (gear lock) and standard Citroen Ultrasonic Alarm/Immobiliser. I have two sets of locking wheel nuts. I park behind my mams car on the drive. The only way theyd steal mine off the drive is with both sets of keys.

If you get a Disklok, use it. My old mate told me he would break in and steal Diskloks that werent in use. With all the time in the world, a shed and some tools, you can drill out the lock and replace it using a padlock across the locking holes along the top.

Incidentally, dont assume Im like my mate, were like chalk and cheese. He went one way at 13, I went another. Rarely see each other now.

I also read a fairly recent review of the disklok which said it took the pro thief 15mins to remove. I also read a story in the paper which said when one guy lost the keys to his he had to use fire brigade style cutters to remove it!!

disclok is the best visible steering lock out there at the minute, i wouldnt fit a tracker as it will take to long to find your car, the best bet is blackjax

what would be the point in that chris?

the only problem with a disklok is some tw*t will want to try and see if they can get it of (bit of a challenge), i had one fitted to one of my old cars and some knobber tried to get it off, they of course didnt but they caused alot of damage trying, so after that i stopped using it

i use a stoplock pro its about £60 from halfords.

ok it may not stop them if they want it bad enough but if mine is parked with it on and another car is next to it without one i think they will go for the easiest option.

get a disk lock but dont keep the keys for it on the same bunch as the car key

makes it a lot easyer for some one to nick you car if they have both keys

know someone whos house got broken into an the car key an the disclock keys were together which makes it pointless they never saw there car agian

At the end of the day, if theyre going to steal your car, they will. Disklock or no disklock. Its why we have insurance. You can always get another car.

Err, it only weighs about 3.5kg! lol So I keep it in the back to aid weight distribution...

In response to the other comments along the lines of "if someone really wants your car then theyll take it no matter what lock youve got". I completely agree. But for the sake of £70 to buy a disklock then I want to make it as hard for the thieving gypsy b******s to nick it as possible!

good in theory but not good in practice, you are more likely to lose the keys to the disklock if they are not with your car keys and they you really are stuffed!

for under £200 you can get blackjax fitted, and they wont be able to drive away even if they had the keys, i wouldnt go down the tracking route as its to slow, and by the time you get your car back(if you ever do) alot of the damage will be done

Didnt quite a few on here see the prog a few weeks ago about all the stolen british cars in Nigeria.

They all had trackers fitted and made it all the way over there without being caught, some system eh?

nope, sometimes when i arm the alarm the indicators flash and the alarm beeps twice, most of the time the indicators just flash, no beep. the alarm is arming , have tested it to check, just wondered if anyone else had noticed this or had a solution.

If you are not using it and its left on the back seat. Some unscrupulous people will steal it. The locking bolt goes through two O shaped rings. They can drill out the lock (useless as they have no keys) and then use a padlock between the O rings.

Then they have a pretty decent (visually anyway) Disklok to use on their own cars.

Ok there all you Disklock owners.....

cant paste a full link as to the test but follow the below.

http://www.autoexpress.co.ukwww.autoexpress.co.uk

Special features - Product tests

scroll down to Steering Locks

Find the disklock and read the following.

Price: £75.99

Attack time: 117 seconds

The Disklok looks better in silver than the original yellow - at least until our attack started. This time, using a similar method to last year, it took 117 quiet seconds to defeat - virtually identical to the Stoplock Ultima. And it should be a warning for the 2003 champ. Still our Best Buy as it offers total wheel protection that the Ultima cant - but theres no room for complacency.

I should add that I have one and use it every day but once there is an easy way to bypass something word gets around those in the know. Its a usefull deterent but thats all.

D

If they want anything they will take it regardless of what you have, by using a visual detterant you buying time at the very least.

Weve all heard the stories of them going into the house after the keys!

  Ford Fiesta

yep Decto read the review, Ive emailed disklok to ask them about it, nothing different between the yellow and silver apart form the colour.

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

Ok, fair enough. Very surprised to read 117 seconds though to be fair it is pretty much the hardest to get off.

I would never rely totally on it and it only forms part of my car defence. Hopefully by the time they think they have to bypass alarm, steering lock, mul-t-lok and disklok theyll think its pointless for a Saxo.

But yes, time is all you really buy. Its common knowledge that car security is so good that they just try to hijack you/steal the keys.

  Ford Fiesta

exactly they will have to go for the alarm first and on the 182 its quite well hidden, well the siren is.

Cant be arsed with all that "Extra" security" stuff. Not on a Clio anyway.

If it were some hugely expensive or rare car then maybe but not on my Clio.As much as i love my car if they are good enough to get past my alarm and immobiliser then chances are they are up there with the guys in the mags who can get past the extra stuff in 100 seconds or whatever the mags quote. In that case they can have it and hopefully id never see it again to make my insurance claim easier.

The average scrote who tries to steal a car just for fun are not as good as we are led to believe and will go for an easier car to take for their fun.If the extra stuff makes you feel better and it convinces you thats why your car never gets touched then its worth the money. In truth you will never know if thats what stopped it not getting it nicked or not.

I would still say that for £44 (costco) its a damn sight better than paying £££££ for a tracker, and your car still gets nicked and ends up half way round the world.
