FAO Mike172sport or any boffins

any ideas what parts i would need and how difficult it would be to retrofit nav to a 182? spoken to a local dealer but they are too thick/lazy to bother and just fob me off. im assuming if i can get the parts nice and cheap and fit it myself it wont be too bad a job so is it just screen, antenna gps unit, cd reader, dashtop, and loom ? or is there anything else i need to bear in mind ?

You might be able to, got to be worth an ask!

I was looking at getting the top dash and fitting my own screen in there etc. Top dash is quite expensive but then Im sure you know that already!

not asked the price yet but im sure i can get a deal ive got a few contacts at dealers, its just whether its possible to fit and if the loom etc is seperate or if its built into the main harness from factory. im sure someone will know, in fact roamer might have a good idea seeing as the interior is stripped on his now

Loom is separate from what I remember, Im fairly sure the screen/kaypad bit is renault specific, the control unit includes the tmc receiver too (which is normally an extra unit if you buy the VDO MS5000 system), youll need an antenna splitter for the radio antenna feed to the control unit, and erm... thats about it, I can get you pictures of the wiring in mine when you get round to it Simon :)

sounds almost too easy, lol. Cheers John, think ill have to find out how much all the parts are going to cost from renault. or ideally find and accident damaged 172/182 in a breakers with it fitted and see how much they want for the nav out of it.

Not worth retro fitting a Genuine nav system on your car, reno prices for te parts will cost more than a new decent VDO system, rough prices for nav parts below

Nav computer 1300
Screen 800
Dash 400 to 500
Plus wiring etc probably another 1000

So best to just get a dash and fit a vdo nav system.

cheers fella, dealer finally got back to me and told me the parts prices. how the hell can they justify over double the amount on the seperate items compared to factory option. takes the piss

I may be selling my factory fit sat nav (will have to include a dash swap). If it wont go in the new V6 Im going to sell it. By the way does anyone know if it will go in a V6? The dealer told me no because its linked to the ECU which i know is b****cks. Anyone know of another reason it wont fit?

That would be cool, having a V6 with the reanult nav, probably the only one in the world!

I would have thought it will go in but you will have to modify things slightly. The computer in the boot will have to go some place else for example wont it. Sure it can be done. The dealers are crack pots, cant cos of ECU? wtf. lol

You can fit that easy if you have any noodle!!

Probably take a day or two to get it right, dont forget when you speak to reno dealers you speak to either parts or reception staff who aint technically minded.

Oh and the nav systems dont connect to the ECU..wtf are they on.

If you need to wire up a speed signal then connect it to the ISO connector on the radio (pin 6 I think without checking)

and its correct that the nav is conected to the steering wheel input yeah, so it knows when you trun etc, and can work even without a gps signal?

No its not, it knows when you turn because of the GPS.

ok, thought it read it somewhere thats all.

what sensors does it use then so it can continue in tunnels etc, as it can work for quite some time without any GPS signal, and it knows when you turn etc aswell as the speed.

think ill have to find an accident damaged car with nav and buy the kit from that im f**ked if im paying 3k for a kit that should cost 1.5k if the pricks at renault would have put it in my car from factory

It guesses based on your speed, your last known position and direction, most tunnels are a stright run from the outside road so it accuate enough.

The trip computer does the same if it looses it fuel flow then it guesses the fuel flow for the next few miles.

in the settings for the nav, there is a spped adjust function, Ive left mine standard but why would you want it to compensate higher or lower then?

Might be to account for bigger wheels the other Renault cars the Sav nav is fitted to.

Apart from that Ive no idea

Loony wasit missed off the order or something mate???

why not get an alpine or pioneer slide out unit????

wasnt missed off the order renault have pulled it from the list of options however they still listed it on their website when i ordered the car, muppets. i was tempted to get an alpine of pioneer unit but my pioneercd/mp3/wma player has a twin facia part of which angles outwards and i hit that with my knuckels as i shift gear as it is. plus i prefer the factory look with it all intergrated in to the dash. TheRonin_172 has offered to sell me his if he cant get it to fit his vee so may be an option if not i might have to go the route of a slide out unit or see if i can hunt a kit down at a scrappy. btw fred we on for this weekend fella ?
