^ True dat. our made 170bhp with a rough map and no VVT. Also it ran fine on idle with the solenoid activated as there isnt enough oil pressure to advance it. Rev it and when it returns to idle its rough for a few seconds til the oil pressure drops then normal

with bodies you wont notice the VVT off at idle so much as the pulse effect from the overlap is lost by the throttle bodies.

with a plenum is far more prominent.

you need to do a run with it on and then off to see what difference it makes, if there is no difference then its blatantly not working.

if it were mapped with it on, running it off will mean the fueling will be rich as the engine wont be using as much air... and visa versa obviously.

put 12v across the switch and see if it clicks, with the switch out you can also see the plunger moving a little as well if its ok.

the dephasers dont really fail in terms of not advancing, just get noisy as idle if they are faulty.

hope this helps

Andy

Impatient mofo, try and think about something else Nick.

i know marco ;) , just fancy a change now , all the use i wanted out of the car has gone now , wanted to do a few track days in it hence spending all this money , but the car has spent more time at m tech than i have drove it !!! if only k tec had there DTH boddies for sale when i was looking about :(

Its just one of those things mate, its happened, you cant do anything about it, Matt is doing all his best to fix it, just wait and see what you think once its done

lol sounds like its our fault there Nick..... if the car worked (ie properly) it would make the cliamed power and be back with you 3 weeks ago!

We're on it!

What's the overall intake length??

Have you done a leak-down test?
A cranking pressure test is quite limited in what it shows...

the throttle bodies did have a air leak on them when i got the car back , not sealed to the head properly , i have told matt this so i presume it has been sorted ,

  2005 Nissan Navara
A leak down test will show leakage on the valves and rings, it will help determine cylinder sealing efficiency.

And find out intake length as this can have a massive effect on final outup.

been down there stripping some bits out of the car tonight russ , the car has been stood there for a while as i think they are busy on other things , he is hoping to get it all sorted this week so hopefully provided he can find the prob car should be back friday running good power

wtf your cars not running right even after you paid to have it done and they are telling you they havn't had time to look at it due to "other stuff" un acceptable

... um think you are all missing the vital point here...

The car is not working due to anything to do with us, we are fixing it for him FOC...

We have had the likes of Danny on here who is a well known and respected clio specialist, who foind the cam timing to be WAY out and then upon correcting it the car loses power. Something is wrong with the car beyopnd our control. Nick understands this, and is happy with the service we have provided.

And unforutnatly we are incredibly busy this time of year with the race support and so on, hence the situation.

If other garages are a little quieter, thats probably why their TB conversions are sometimes as high as twice as much as ours, and they certainly wouldnt try and help as much as we have!

Matt,

From what I can see you are bending over backwards to try and sort this. You have notable gains from before the conversion. It's not your fault the timing was out to start with as you didn't do this work. You should be commended for the gains shown!

Is it possible that some internal damage has been done to the engine or was the timing only marginally out?

Top marks for wanting to sort this as many tuners wud tell the customer to f**k off or worse still not even answer the phone!

i hope it is done this week matt as i really need the car back runing properly so i can get it sold , as i have been wothout a car for 3 months now !!!

there was no damage to it , the car went on a track day few weeks prior to going into have throttle bodies done and ran fine to me , http://www.youtube.com/user/axgtbwaii#p/a/u/2/VjREGip3WLo

Stu,

We are indeed workin away at it!

Nick, if we can;t find the problem by the end of the week you can collect it but I would be happier if it went away running spot on....

Cheers,
Matt

Guessing your the 172 infront of the car thats filming?

And surely the timing was out then aswell? But as you said it looks like its running fine on that video.

cam car did a 2.20 ish lap, and passed him....and looked like he did so very easily...no way was the car running anywhere near right. even a nr standard williams will b quicker than that.

looks well slow to me tbh.

We dont know what the cam car was running and how hard nick was driving it though.

And i was only agreeing with nick as he said it was fine before?

I do agree that the video isnt the best representation of the car. But it doesnt look "massively" underpowered.

  williams and trophy
doesnt matter what the cam car was running........it was a slow lap by any standards

as above, cam car was a slow lap, 172 wasnt driving as tho he was chilin out on a cool down lap so i would say he was trying.

compare the above vid to this...a car with less power, and the cam car is an £800 car.

yes it does.

Then why does the OP say the car was perfectly fine before the ITB's?

some ppl will believe anything. and no disrespect to the OP. but most ppl will believe what a tuner tells them if they arent clued up in that respect. yes he may of thought it was running fine, which doesnt mean it was.

the no. of times iv repaired cars that have come from a 'tuners' is unreal tbh.

but then....cant really say the 'tuners' of the cars that have been sorted by me are actually tuners, cowboys springs to mind better.

That williams cant be standard. It flys! past all the cars that would normaly rape one.

I think only nick will know how the car was running properly. we can all make assumptions on a video but there are too many variables to say yes it was definatly ok/underpowered.

Edit: I agree with your above post tbh.

You seem to know your stuff what do you think it could be?

I dont know nick or anything im just interested haha

no the car in the vid isnt standard. but figure this. a 150 bhp engine, with cams.....ecu not mapped for the mods. against a 172 with 165bhp, with cams, and mapped for the mods.....

the 172 should really be quicker, or at the very least equal to the unfinished williams. and its soooooooooooooo far from it.

i would rather car running spot on as well , as i am not paying £2100 for a set of bodies for the car to come out of there running 130bhp ,

even if they put the car back to how it was standard and i would keep the ecu and bodies, but i dont think they can as they have chopped the standard loom about and cut most sensors of , await matts reply ??? can you also get on the car asap matt as it just seems to sit there for weeks on end whenever i drop it of , you may be busy but the car needs to get out of there running fine , the car must of been stood there since i dropped it of 2-3 weeks ago as the battery was completely dead and the brakes were seized on !!!

no offence mate. but they seem to be at least trying to sort the prob.

ok. so maybe they should have realised there was something not quite rigt before they started, but from the vid, id say its been well down on power since you got it.

hope it goes well for you, and your happy with the car when you get it back. but i know from previous experience, rectifying someone elses fuk up isnt always easy. and iv rectified quite a few....mainly from the same 'tuner' and i use that word extremely loosely.

the cam timing has been rectified though 2 live , sideways danny has been and inspected the car and thats all he could see i presume after looking over the car , i know they are trying there best but the car doesnt seem to be getting touched , granted there busy but come on a set of throttle bodies doesnt take 3 months , k tec can do them in a day , and if the car isnt/wanst running right i should of been told before doing the work to car , matt told me this was the sort of power they expect to see out of a clio 172 so i thought none the wiser , and 3 months on the car is running 130bhp now after having there ecu and jenveys fitted , it is standard practice to do a health check and if there are any prob's with car notify the customer before doing the job ??? dont just go ahead and do it to get it out the door and money in the bank !!! this car is really getting me down recently and i have forked out 3 months tax/insurance , fuel there and back 2 or 3 times , and the car is still running sh1t ..

fair play mate....but they were thinking it was a std car. which it wasnt. shoddy workmanship can take forever to rectify. ask kungfu spag.........lol

hes spent a hell of a lot more than you..and the shoddy workmanship is still a big problem for him. im still waiting for the text to say the charger bracket has finally given up the ghost and now requires a top end rebuild.......again....after the last fuk up by another 'tuner' .....again used very loosely.
