You should have got a Cup i feel, the Phase 2 172 is too soft imo

I think you are poss right gaz.

Looking back I should have bought a 1.2 or diesel and with the difference immediatley spent on the williams. I thought it was going to be dead money but I now know I won't be selling it so the costs will be merley a residual loss.

The 172 is still miles better for a daily run but I never thrash it, I just go for mpg, maybe a bit of a waste.

I did do a massive long article a while ago but they key points are:

The 172 seating position is very poor.
The 172 steering wheel is too big.
It needs to be thrashed to go quick rather than from low rev's.
Not as much feed back as with the williams and is tough to know where you are with the car at times.
But the 172 is quicker imo.
The 172 is better for long drives.
The 172 is lower maintenance.
Don't have to be as mechanically soft with the 172.

Well I do think about it but I think the 172/Williams will be my final clio. Part of the magic of the Williams to me is my childhood love of it so when I do change it will be for somehting completley different. I dont think the Trophy will ever be as good as I want it to be. I am also very indecisive with it but for now I will keep it.... I think?! Lol.

Willy looks beta and is more cult. But the last point you make, 'makes' the difference. 9/10 willy's are rusty and tired. The best ones will be kept forever by the owners.
Williams handling was dicey too...Was never sure if i'd survive a blast! No confidence in it...Then again 172 isn't much better.

Mechanically soft? be gentle with it you mean?

I've owned 2 valvers and a 172 and always prefered the valvers in almost every way. I don't use the toys in the 172 and I find that they are not significantly more reliable and tend to cost more to fix. The extra pace is nice but I soon got annoyed with how much less grip there was in the 172. gearboxes are sh1te on both cars.
