Fia Kill Switches

Car  Track 172 & Golf R32
Il be fitting x2 fia kill switches one evening this week on my track build. One on the head unit blank and the other on the left side scuttle panel.

Silly question but i just want to be sure.. can you wire these in series? and i take it a resistor per kill switch is needed wired to an earth?

You only need one. It just has two pull cables/buttons off it, so one for the cabin and one for the marshalls.

Sorry buddy what do you mean pull cables?

The car we had at college had an actual kill switch in the dash, then one on the scuttle which was like a dummy switch if you like, linked to the main switch in the dash via cables similar to those used on bicycle brakes and remote fire extinguisher pulls etc.

There is one actual switch behind the dash with a knob that twists to operate the switch.. Then there is like you say, a cable which is connected to the switch from the outside. Pulling that cable operates the same switch.

Yes generally they are like so:
There is the red knob that can be twisted by the driver, connected to the switch behind the dash. Attached to that red handle is a pull cord. Like you say a bit like a bicycle brake cable. That pull cord is the other end of the red pull handle fitted by your scuttle, which then pulls that knob to activate the switch instead of you twisting. In other words there is only one knob to twist, either you do it from the driver's seat. Or it can be done externally by pulling the cable.

A Few stolen images from google may help visualize this a bit better...

Cable is run from outside of car, pulling the cable pulls the 'key' out the kill switch.
