Finally getting a Renaultsport Clio

Car  Monaco 172
After years of wanting one the time has come to actually get one, picking up my Monaco Blue 172 tomorrow.

24k Mileage
Cam belt changed at 11k
FSH
No modifications

Incredibly excited and looking forward to getting involved with some forum events/meets!

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

Planning on keeping it for a long time to come so ruining it is not really an option! It was family owned since new + not driven much hence the mileage :)

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

Hopefully the service history backs that up as well.

I'd get it on a RR. The slow ones are the ones with no miles on that have never been driven hard.

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

Okay will definitely have to look into that, how would one go about making one "un-slow" if that is the case.

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

nice! thats bloody low miles! 2400 miles a year for the last 10 years? lol!

Here's one I got when I went to view it, still waiting to pick it up as the V5 hasn't come through from the plate change yet.

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

nice motor mate - by far THE BEST colour 172 ever. i had an 03 one, regretted selling it for years after....

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

Picked it up tonight, absolutely love it. Will try and get some half decent pictures tomorrow!

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

Great find! Enjoy it :)
Belts were done in 2009!
Just FYI, belt intervals are 5yrs/72k but everyone tends to err on the side of caution because if goes, it goes.

And 'specialist' does not necessarily mean main dealer.

Re: Finally getting a Clio Sport

Congrats on the purchase, I absolutely love my 172.

Just to clear things up for you... Belt Intervals are:

Cam belt & tensioners: 5 years / 72k miles (which ever come soonest)
Aux belt & tensioners: 3 years / 36k miles (which ever come soonest)

So I'm afraid your Aux belt may need changing... a Specialist would advise to change it as if the Aux belt goes, 90% of the time it takes the cambelt with it and thats a huge bill/potential engine write off.

The initial Aux belt interval was the same as the Cambelt when our cars were first released; but Renault reduced it as too many aux belts were snapping and taking cam belts with them.

Its your call; when I bought my 172 the Aux belt had done about 34k over 5 years, and when it came off it didn't look shagged by any means - but that doesnt mean too much. Your belt has obviously done a lot less miles up to now so it will just depend on the environment its lived in over the last 3 years and whether the rubber has perished at all.

If you've got £300 you'd like to spend on your Monaco any time soon - I think you should consider getting the Aux belt & tensioners done as soon as; then you can drive the car as hard as you wish with no worries.

Very nice, enjoy it mate.

i remember years ago going to Renault to ask for a brochure on the 172 when they first came out and then from that moment wanting one. Think that's why after 5 years I can't sell the 182, love it too much

Thread title is still wrong. It's making Baby Jesus cry. Jus' sayin'...
