fitting a 172 ph1 kit.. FAO those with a rep!

hey guys, now the painting is over i've started fitting my 172 front end to my beloved 1.4, but hit a snag or two.. the wings fit on perfectly, but the bumper was a right pain! the car didn't have front mounting brackets, the original bumper bolted on downward but the 172 is from the front, so i've knocked up a set and studying photos it's all in the right place. but there's a meaty gap between the bumper and headlights!!
if i try to push it in it'll go, but the wings try to move out, which they can't as they're bolted to the body. so i'm stuck with this gap.
i have thought that perhaps given one set of brackets wasn't there, maybe the wing to body brackets are slightly wider on the 172, and i'm gonna have to fashion something there too, but can't get to the garage to try till mon. meanwhile, thought i'd ask those who've done it. did it just go straight on? what about your front brackets?

Wider wings, so you'll have to bend it in and most likely chop a bit off the end of the bumper.

ah! was trying to remember who had that white one, i loved that! yea, i have the wings, wanted to do it properly. i'll post a few piccys once it sits right!
