fitting a grp n ecu

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk1
Hello people, I have just ordered my group n ecu from hill power. Has anybody fitted one of these before? was it difficult? Does anyone know of any articles with pics on how to swap the ecu's over?

cheers.

plus hill power have advised me to remove my piperx cone filter and put the standard box back on with a performance psnel filter, Is this better?

cheers

Sounds like you need Frosty's RSport ECU fitting guide:

http://brandon.frost.users.btopenworld.com/ecu.htm

Step 1, getting the ECU cover off is probably the hardest bit. I bent a number of screwdrivers doing this!

The standard airbox does a very good job as it is, so with a performance panel filter in that should do nicely. Your piperx cone filter will probably be sucking in warm air from the engine bay so may actually reduce performance.

heh, a dump from the ecu (29f400) be usefull as afaik virgin units are not paired yet... :)
nice guide btw, may be playing with mine later

i no i prob has been asked befroe but how much is a group n ecu from hill power and is it worth it even tho i havent got any mods to the car?

hill power group n ecu is 187 including p&p but you have to fit it yourself, this includes club discount, you fit it yourself

How much in BHP/Torgue gains could I expect from this? I have 3.5 inch Hayward & Scott CAT back exhausts (may de-cat eventually), along with K&N 57i open panel filter (heatshield is on order).

Very little. They tend to fill up/flatten the mid-range a little, and give you an extra 500/750 rpm to play with on track.

Throttle response is a little sharper too.

when u change it over with ur original ecu does the group n one automatically adjust its self to the set up of ur car(eg whether u got exhaust, filter etc) or do u need to get it re programmed?

from what i gather, the group n is setup to take advantage of additional mods to the vehicle if they are there (if added after the ecu then maybe bat disconnect for 30 mins, resets ecu to make full advantage as other posts on here suggests ?)
This is why an IK + grroup n does not make the engine run lean.
However, a custom remap from the likes of pmurray + others on here will offer a more specific map for your car with whatever you happen to have bolted onto it which would probably need redoing to take full advantage of additional mods if you apply them after the remap.

Hopefully my 172 ecu will arrive today so I can get to play.

The definaition of group N is showroom condition sort of some mods are alloed usuallty exhaust and IK as stock ones don't last long racing and so mapping is allowed to be mdofied to match the changes but there not huge chnages.
