Fitting Coilies

  Bumder With A Buffer
Just after some advie really.

am going to be fitting my V-maxx coilies tomorrow and want to make sure il be doing it correctly (tracking etc will be sorted out next week)

Fronts a matter of undoing the strut top nut..undoing the bolts near the wheel and popping the whole strut out from memory (was about 3 years ago I put the springs on so can't remember!!)

Rear is a case of jacking up the car..taking out the springs and undoing the rear strut bolt and also the one that connects it to the beam...

then refit everything and play with the adjusters correct?

yep. however once you take your front suspension unit out you will need to reuse the large rubber bung along with the top hat and thin nut. will make sense when your doing it.

also make sure to wind the front coilovers all the way down before you put it back together as it will save you compressig the spring.

rears are just a case of undoing the rear shocks which will drop the rear beam. then just use jack to lift up the rear beam again in order to line up the holes for the shock when youve changed over the shocks and got the springs in place.

there is a guide which will help in teh guides section

Well im gonna start tomorrow up at my rents place...if I get stuck at all you ok to help me on Saturday??

Yeah dont think we are up to much.

I didnt have to wind my fronts down when I did mine mate and our struts looks identical apart from the springs.

Still dont understand the winding the struts down malarky???

also to adjust them there's 2 rings...im guessing you winf them up from the bottom one yes (once they are in place!)

  Charged Superleggera
you wind them down so that you get the max compression. its saves you using spring clamps. it makes sense when you think about it

I didnt need to do this to fit the top mounts, they might have been all the way down out of the pack though, really cant remember.

richy its obvious if you cant fit the top mounts on :)

Ah right I get it now...yeah they are wound all the way down already! :)

once they are in place I turn the bottom blue adjuster dont to my desired level??

Obviously if its too high I then turn the top blue adjuster to make it go lower...correcto??

The bottom adjuster is just a locking nut mate, they need to stay together. My front end is up 17cm (from the bottom of the thread to the bottom spring seat) I think and its still well low so put them up a fair bit, rears to the bottom probably :) You need a 10mm allen key (I think) to secure the rear platform through the rear beam.

Ah okay...I had a quick play the other day with them out of the box and It seemed like thats how they worked...maybe because no pressure was on the springs at that time.

Im sure il get on okay..now going down to the garage at work to loosen of my top nuts so I dont struggle tomorrow :)

Right got some piccies just to confirm a few things...

Do I use the BLue top mount shown with these??

Alright im only checking!

And one would assume that I should bolt that down first using the nut supplied ..fit into place then use the mounts from the old ones and secure the top...Im not doing it at mine so if I get it wrong its a fair old drive back into town!

Ah wait no I think I get it all now!

No, the nut supplied is just for shipping to keep them together, your top mount goes directly on top of that.

  Bumder With A Buffer
I edited it...It made sense when I looked at the flat bit of the coilie

I remember how the old ones were now.

Ok, just dont bolt it down with the nut that came with it, you do NOT use that nut.

  Bumder With A Buffer
I know...im sure it would of made sense when I take the old ones off"...from memory though there is a bolt holing the old standard ones on isnt there?? MAybe thats why im getting confused!

Yeah, its above them as you would expect, sometimes they can be an arse to get off, but as you have had yours off before, should be fine.

Managed to do the rears before it pissed down big time here so rain has stopped play for the moment.

Fronts are still on just 60mm springs and standard shocks for now (Ithink...)

I dont think the rears are as low as what they were before though on just springs :(

The went to do an oil change and found I didnt have the removal plug/key type thing, and I was hungry so popped into Stow and picked one up from Motorspares..

Then on the way home a massive Jewson lorry pulled out RIGHT in front of me...Basically he pulled out of an industrial Estate without looking and almost had the front drivers side off the car (missed by about 10mm) had the front of my car off...Good ol EBC greenstuff brakes almost didnt stop me either f**king pieces of s**t  Glad those pieces of s**t are being replaced.

They need to bed in mate so will be slightly lower, the springs are proper soft so they do differ in height dependant on weight.

  Bumder With A Buffer
OH FFS!!

Drain key I have just been given/bought is too big....can't undo the front strut nuts  b****cks arse w**k!

  Bumder With A Buffer
So decided to try and ghetto remove my sump nut by using a bar out of a door handle :)

Fits in fine..but my god how f**king tight have they done the b*****d thing up??!!

I cant even move it with a hammer!..Don't want to damage the nut so am calling it a day (a s**t one :( ) and going home (my home) instead..and on the way getting the correct ddrain key I hope!
