Fixing faulty windscreen washers

  172 cup
Decided on Sunday to sort out the rear washer jet not working, or more to the point why water came out of the front screen washer jets when twisting the stalk for the rear. Thought it would be best to get some spare parts from the scrap yard as I didn't have a clue what was causing the issue. £5 for a second hand washer bottle, pump, pipes and washer jets seemed ok, then spent at least two and a half hours arsing around trying to get them working. Did at one stage have water coming out of the rear jet but nothing out of the front ones, gave up in the end and ordered a new pump online, less than £10 from eurocarparts.co.uk.
Collected the new pump this afternoon, fitted and working in about 10mins.
Let this be a lesson to everyone else out there with faulty windscreen washers, just buy a new pump as second hand ones aren't worth the f**king effort.:nono:

I've got this problem too and not got round to sorting it yet. Is it easy enough to just fit a new pump then and it should work or could something else be causing the issue too / instead? Which pump did you buy? Was it the universal 12v one?

The pump you need is Part No.488745040. Just type that in the search bar on eurocarparts web site. The pump is listed at £12.90 but once you proceed to the checkout I used the discount code SUMMEREND25 to get the price down to less than a tenner (just look on their home page for the latest discount codes).
To fit the pump I just removed the passanger side wiper arm, this required some releasing oil as the dissimilar metals had caused some galvanic corrosion which required the use of a rubber mallet on the wiper arm to break the joint.
I just pulled up the scuttle trim and then pulled the pump out of the washer bottle. Just watch out for the small black grommett that seals the pump into the bottle, if it doesn't come out with the old pump you may end up puhing it into the washer bottle when re-fitting the new pump, this required the use of a long bit of coat hanger wire to fish it out by the bottle filler neck. Then just fit the grommet to the new pump, attach the front and rear water pipes and securely push home, connecting the electrical plug last. Test pump then refit wiper and your done.

That's great, thanks both! I've just ordered the pump at Euro Car Parts using the discount code so will give it a go when it arrives! Thanks again guys!

Just a point to note, the pump/water bottle fitted to mine which is a Cup model is not the same as the one fitted to the twin pump water bottle where headlight washers are fitted, from ArcticCleo's photo link it looks like the twin pump water bottle needs removing to get the pumps out, on the single pump water bottle you can just pull the pump out vertically. Make sure you have ordered the right pump from Eurocarparts, I did notice there were two pumps listed for the clio, I just ordered the one that looked like mine.
