I posted a thread last week explaining i had won a 182 manfild and cat off ebay for the grand sum of £80 (the listing had no pictures) But i thought ill risk it

Well a few people didnt think it would be the "real deal"...

so after a couple of phone calls with the seller off i went up the M1 this afternoon!

Met him on a layby just off jct 36

Got home 30mins ago and here it is..

Now is the tricky part... fitting the bloodey thing lol!

Ideally i want to keep the cat in with it.. well i think i do ;)

But the end that connects to the exhaust has a weird flange?

IIRC a 182 cat is 200cell, am i right?

Yep its a 200cell cat on a 182 and it won't directly fit, as iirc its too long to mate directly to a 172 exhaust system. Hence why you need a link pipe or sports cat making up.

And after proding around under mine this afternoon fitting will be fun!

Top find though! very jealous.

Shove the 182 cat on ebay mate as its no good for the manifold conversion as its too long.

You should get 50 notes plus for it

Have you got a 182 manifold fitted to your 172?

Nope, want one though! CAT wise your pretty stuck at having to fork out for a k-tec sports cat, get one made somewhere else, or get friendly with a MOT tester who won't worry about the emmissions.

Or (and not really an option), refit the 172 setup every MOT time.

I am tempted to just chop my exhaust down until it fits, then weld a new flange on?

How much are we talking about here?

cant be much more than an inch?

Looking at the link pipe/cat k-tec sell and actually seeing a 182 manifold i'd say its a lot more than that! More like 4-6".

Complete custom exhaust might be the easiest/cheapest option, than if a 182 cat will fit a 172.

Made up for you mate, mine cost me £350 brand new. Well I say brand new, my mate bought one from k tec brand new for his 172 and 2 days later wrote the 172 in a ditch?

He sold it to me still in the bubble wrap that k tec sent it in, I thought I had a bargain.

Sorry i didnt explain myself very well, i am thinking of cutting my current cat-back exhaust down until the 182 cat can meet the end of it :S

Does that make sense?

i.e. how much of my exahust would i have to chop off to accomodate the 182 cat..

Did you get the link pipe aswell?

Have you already fitted the manifold, if not i dont suppose you could measure the link pipe for me? ;)

No I understand exactly what you mean and I don't think you'll be able to chop enough off a 172 exhaust to fit to a 182 cat/fanimold in a million years.

ive just been an poked my head under the car and i think your right there is only about 2" max to play with before you get to the centre section!

De-cat it is then.. ill worry about emmisions when my M.O.T comes round :rasp:

All you need is a link pipe, basically a decat. If you want to keep it legal the best bet would be to take a cat from another car and mod the flangers to fit.

Sure Vauxhall cats are meant to be pretty short so one of those might be ok length wise.
