Had a few other odds and ends arrive for WZD this week, some planned, some less so. Lol.
Won a brand new old stock front grille emblem for less than £8 which was a right result considering mines looking a little gravel rashed these days and they’re about £30 new from Renault.

New set of studs & nuts I in preparation for wheel spacers and 2118s when they eventually go on.

Yet again superb service from Nick @ Pure for the swift delivery of some 10mm axle spacers. Again to help get those wheels sitting correct once the ride height is dropped.

Got the opportunity to purchase an almost new set of Northloop Roll Centre Hubs. These have however been left somewhat neglected in terms of corrosion, and mechanically sound, aesthetically they look horrific. However I’m sure with a bit of love they can be made sweet again and means I won’t be overly precious about them being on my car as a daily driver in all weathers.

First job was to burn out the old dead ABS sensors and check them over. These will be a bit of a project to make tidy again, but will be a sweet addition to the car when they go on. I have full spherical bearings on the front of the Cayman R and they tighten the front end a treat. But the big obvious bonus here is getting that geometry back after the ride height is dropped on the ASTs and curing any bump steer that may otherwise result.
They also have new lower arms with new Poweflex black bushes fitted. Again, this should tighten the front end a treat.

In addition to spherical bearings down the bottom of the strut. I had the opportunity to pick up an “as new” set of PMS topmounts and strut brace. I was going to run the ASTs on new OEM mounts, but these came up at a sensible price and couldn’t be ignored.

Lastly, my car still wears a genuine OEM Cup splitter which are now in the region of £300 to replace from Renault. Mines mint and undamaged. But again, with the impending drop in ride height, that splitter becomes even more vulnerable. So I’ve chosen to remove it and replace with a new Skoda Fabia item which is not only more durable, but a far more sensible £17.

So the pursuit of my perfect road spec Clio 182 continues.

Hubs progressing.

All parts that required glass blast have been blasted. I was let to believe the bearings in them were almost new, and they probably were. However due to the corrosion i decided to replace them anyway. Glad i did as they were stuck in pretty damn tight and took a good 16 ton before they broke free of the uprights.
Seemed illogical to me to have them off the car and not fit new bearings so that what i'll do.

I'll chase all threads and hopefully get them to the platers soon :)

Link to the wipers and boot struts please mate. I need new wipers and normally go for the Bosch aeroblades.

I could do with some new boot struts too. Mine are ok, but nothing like have a springy tailgate!

Wipers are just the cheap OEM ones from RPD. Not as nice as Bosch or PIAA but for £12 they’re fine. Will buy nice ones next time.

Struts are ebay and absolutely superb quality for the money. From memory you had a Trophy wing so may want slightly shorter struts mate?

So, the age old badge question.

I cant decide between the OEM 182 or 197 rear badges. I've purchased both so i can decide. Plan is to remove al the emblems and machine polish the tailgate before refitting new ones along with the "Clio" badge.
I still really like the original design, and wonder if the 197 one is "too modern" on the little 182 boot?

Thoughts? :)

Just read through your current progress. Love the bits your adding. Seats and steering wheel look ace - love a Proto tipo (Singer et al)

Keep up the good work - getting to be a very nice car. I wouldn’t discount the low boost turbo btw. I think it transforms what is an already great car into another level of fun.

Standard all the way. If you're going to have any badges, they should be period correct. I think ones from a different age of car just look a bit weird for some reason.
Totally agree.

Cheers boys, I have to admit that’s a large part of my thought process of liking the period style emblems. I still think they look great and suit the cars vintage. However as Mr Blonde has kindly shown above, the clean lines of the 197 style is also really appealing and makes for a fresh and subtle change. Is it change for change sake? I can’t quite decide, although I’ve bought genuine Renault versions of both, so perhaps I’ll decide when I debadge it.

Thanks for the kind words man, glad you approve. I’m trying to add only high end upgrades that genuinely improve the car as an ultimate fast road package.

Ive not totally discounted the low boost setup, but for now I really like the original build ethic of the car with is big capacity NA motor.
Perhaps some timing adjustments and map to improve drivability will be a nice compromise.
Remember, it’s just a daily 😅

197 badge for me. Looks fresher and clean and doesnt look to modern as the clio has quite nice lines to suit this shape.

The OG looks a little dated, more williams era, but the new style 200 looks too modern.

I've been having these thoughts too, I bought a 200 style but havent fitted it but the 197 badges look a nice halfway house

I think the problem for me is that it just reminds me of when people used to fit MK6 Escort badges to RS Turbos, which then leads me to the ones where people changed it to "SORTED" 😂

Standard badges or no badges in my view!

Dont later mk2 Clio campus come with the newer style Renault badge, see quite a few of them around on 07 and Im sure Ive even seen 08 plates. Did they run them alongside the mk3 for a while?

I know what massivewangers means though, I feel the same. It’s a pet hate of mine to see cars with newer model accessories on. Let’s face it we have these little cars because they’re classic little beasts and they deserve the dignity these days of being spared mods that you’d look like a div explaining to your friends & relatives at your age.

But, if it doesn’t bother you and you prefer the newer one go for the newer one.

But I’m of the age & opinion that these cars should be standard anyway. Let’s face it they’re low powered hatch’s and even an exhaust is making you look like a melt (as the kids would say) on the road unless you’re a kid.

Unless it’s a turbo conversion then a loud exhaust shouting for attention is not a good idea. Unless you’re young, I don’t begrudge kids modifying their cars as we all did it and it’s always epic when you’re late teens (sadly I’m approaching mid 40’s and would look like a grade A penis driving down the road with an exhaust and filter on a clio haha)

So I’m 36 and only really started modding it 6 months ago. #penisalert 😂

I'm 35 (36 soon) and my 197 has a stainless exhaust. Bugger.

No surrender, I'm not growing up for anyone :ROFLMAO:

I’m past that approaching mid 40’s. That’s the age where you can only imagine a clio with a loud exhaust driven by a 40’something being in an inbetweeners sketch...
