Looks really nice in the video. What did you polish it with? Inferno is a lovely colour.

I have the same Frayz. Does a nice fine cut, but the shine levels are good on it.
I like it as i don’t have time to dick about with loads of compounds these days and it’s got a good work time.
I just change my pad/technique depending on levels of cut that I want. As you know, it’s no show car, so just enough to give it a good jolly up and make it look presentable. 🙂

Looks great, have you treated the plastics around the mirrors with anything?

Finally got my Cayman R wheels back, im ashamed to say I chickened out in the end and went for the OEM Gloss Porsche Silver Chrome.
Wrapped in new Cup 2s they look so fresh.
Treated her to fresh genuine crested centre caps and all parts have been coated in Gtechniq C5 topped with C2V3.

High quality work those wheels! Might have missed it but what was wrong with them before?

You missed nothing mate. I had 4 new Pilot Cuo 2S fitted and they managed to scratch 3 of my 4 rims.
So I had to get the lot refinished, and they’re a specific colour so are wet paint and not powdercoated. I’m bloody fussy so they painted them 4 times before I was happy with the finish. The rears and barrels are a light primer colour which sounds odd but that’s how they are from Porsche. So that’s how they had to be.

Ahh the joy of getting new tyres fitted (or getting any work done really).. I've tried five tyre fitters near me before I found one that can change tyres without leaving a single mark! Worth the 40 minute drive!

Did you have cup2's before? Must be great on the Cayman!

Yeah I’ve always had Cup 2s on it.
Truth be told, I would probably be okay with Supersports or PS4S, especially for anything but dry weather.
However I love the way the car feels on Cups, so was reluctant to relinquish that performance.

And why not, I take it you don't use it as a daily through winter.. ;)

Not at all, my Clio is my daily driver.

The R is my toy, although I love driving both just the same. I don’t drive the R in the rain if I can help it, if it gets caught in the rain, so be it but just means a good while up in the air cleaning it all again.

On the odd sunny day I’ll take the R to work but I’ll only drive it to enjoy it. It never takes me to a destination as such lol.

So continuing to Carpé Diem thanks to the lockdown, I managed to crack on with another job I’ve been putting off due to time.
I battled some crazy changeable weather today and fitted my AST 5100 dampers. These were fitted alongside PMS spherical bearing topmounts and matching brace.
The drilled sections for the topmounts were treated to Bilt Hamber Electrox and all areas then covered with Bilt Hamber Dynax UB. The topmounts were liberally covered with Dynax UB before and after fitting. All fasteners were fitted with Loctite and paint marked.

Once fitted, keen to protect my investment they were liberally coated with as much ACF50 as I could get on them and fully covered with Motamec damper socks.

Im currently waiting a pair of locknuts from AST they forgot to add. Also the keen eyed among you will see the ABS wires not clipped up. The OEM cable brackets have past their best, so I’ve ordered some stainless items. Once the parts arrive it will just be getting the geometry setup.

Also big shoutout to @MrBlonde and @Dr Jekyll on the Whatsapp today for their help discussing ride heights. Basically they took the piss until I slammed it. Haha.
As you can see from the photo of the rear, the initial AST settings were somewhat 90s Super Touring haha. I also took this opportunity to tweak the bumper mount brackets so they do not foul on the new power ride height and I warmed and reformed the arch liners to be smooth in the domed areas usually present to accommodate the brackets.
Ride height is currently quite conservative, but this will probably be tweaked as the car settles and I find what I like.

For obvious reasons I’ve only driven it around the block to ensure no knocks or issues but the most noticeable initial impression is the plushness of the ride.
Initially of the 12 damping settings I’ve set the front to 6 clicks up and the rear to 5 clicks up.
Remember I had these specifically valved and sprung for fast road use and they feel beautifully compliant.

Looking forward to matching these to my Roll Centre Hubs and other bits and pieces. Once set, I’ll get my spacers, studs and 2118s on.

That looks awsome. I love the AST's and set up with no seperate spring/damper. Very nice!

Well, judging by the way you take care of your cars this won't be the last time you clean and protect them ;)

Such a shame you can't take it out for a proper drive now!

Well those under arches need a bloody good scrub anyway. But after today’s weather, I figured I’d do them another time.
As mentioned, I’ve got a few other parts to go on so it will all be fresh and new under there anyway.

So, today’s cleaning job, the scuttle.
I was keen to check the scuttle drains were nice and clear as this can cause trouble at a later date. I think looking at it, this was last done before I sold it in 2015 and hasn’t been done since.

Wiper arms and scuttle panels removed and cleaned. Also took the opportunity to remove the wiper mech and give it a clean lubricate all the moving parts. I removed and bleached the washer bottle too as this was pretty grubby.

All areas cleaned and any metal parts were treated with ACF50 before I replaced the panels. Fitted new clips as the old ones were old and brittle.
Also need to replace my header tank as that’s looking pretty old these days.

Anyway... photos. :)

Stainless ABS brackets arrived. Also arrived were the strut lower lock nuts from @Simon@ASTUK, thank you sir. 👌🏼
Brackets are pukka, but like many of these things, the supplied hardware was s**t. The only stainless M6x12 I had was a countersunk so had to add some panel washers. Quite possibly the most overkill and pretty fastener for an ABS bracket on a Clio but at least they look nice 😅

Lock nuts fitted and brackets on, these completes the damper fit except for geometry.

Forgot to say Frayz, you can buy a replacement coolant bottle from euros for £10ish. Renault want £50 and the ecp one is fine. I've had one on since Aug 2017 and it's been sweet and still looks very clean. Just bin the new lid and keep your oe one 👍
