Free Renault Xtra Assistance with an MOT - worth it?

  Clio 182
For Renaults between 3-7 years old you can get free basic assistance if Renault do the MOT - anyone else done this?

One thing that bothers me is that it doesnt cover punctures and you're pretty much fucked if you get a puncture in the wrong place on a 182 tyre so you can't use the foam...

I've tentatively booked my car into Renault for the MOT...

no, they will fail it on someting to get the money back, not worth it at all.

better off just getting AA cover or something to be honest!

but surely they can't just find something wrong for the sake of it... I can argue that out.

they can and will, failed mine for a loose handbrake, the actual handle.

a bloke my dad knows used to work for a renault garage near scotland as an MOT tester, a selling point at this dealers was the first MOT free, and he was told to find an MOT failure on 50% of the cars that came in for a free MOT.

could just be a lottery for you.

well on mine, inside the car the handbrake handle had play in it side to side, which i personally never noticed, they failed it on that.

wanted to charge me £90 to tighten up the 2 nuts, which i got another garage to check over, they then tried to charge me for the retest because i took it off site, argued etc about how it wasn't loose when i brought it in so they did it for free.

i've had a lot of trouble with them due to my cars with them trying to rip me off, so i think they try to piss me off if i ever go down to them, but i wouldn't risk taking it there to be honest, go to a specialist, or a well recommended garage, anywhere but renault.

just from joining this site i have seen how badly they try to rip people off, i wouldnt trust them again.

I've just booked mine for an MOT at me dealer, as it's still got warranty till the end of May I thought I'd get it done while there was little chance of me having to pay for any knackered parts.

^^^ T'is a good idea that, if they find any probs that should be sorted F.O.C under warranty, they should replace it!

Tys.

I did say about the handbrake issue Karen.

Be warned!

Renault can't fit it in until the 26th anyway and it needs it by the 19th...

Personally I think smaller one off garages are more likely to try and rip off a woman tbh.
