Right after havin a beast of a couple days / weeks or years , when ever you are reading this i thought i would start a little tread to show you how im getting on .

Im in the process of cleaning up everything first and was just about to take off my rocker cover and found out it actualy holds the cams in place ( bloody french barstards ) :p

Anyway here is a link to the car when I first got it with quite a funny story of how that day panned out, defo worth a read if u have a spare 10 min

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?733235-Grab-A-Cuppa-and-Have-Read-of-the-last-24hrs

So anyway starting taking it all apart today to see what im dealing with and TBH its not as bad as i thought, its not been looked after and needs TLC which I will defo give her.

My exhaust mounts turned up today so hopefully that will solve the terrible banging when I pull away and under load when driving

Here we go...........
So to take my battery out and removed the fuse box cover to find it looking like this

Never seen machine work like this before in the inlet ports, looks very wavey

As you said it doesn't look at first thought, as long as it's mechanically sound then exterior isn't too much of a problem.

Keep up the photos, makes a change to have a project with plenty of progress photos :)

Mine sounds like a tractor , doesn't really bother me tbh don't think think it can go anywhere so should be ok

Took the front calipers off for a re-furb, drain all the brake fluid as well as it must be mostly water by now , i dont recon its ever been changed, same with the oil :banghead:

are these calipers unique to the 172's and 182's ??

i dont think i need to actually change the seals as they still seem pretty good, just gonna clean them right up

  LY 182
Will be intresting to see how you turn this around! Look forward to seeing the progres after that nightmare of picking it up haha

The calipers should be fine after a lil bit of tlc. Just need a little rubber boot thats all.

Good man, I read your 'issues' it's a shame your lass was with you really (my wife is pregnant so I can understand why you just paid and bailed!).

To be honest I've seen MUCH worse, and you seem to know what you're doing ;)

Oh yeah don't paint these alloys white like your black 172! :dead:

just read the other thread. had a real laugh at the wrong transit. sorry. but look forward to your updates here. im assuming them ports are not factory? looks like someone has had a go at it diy method. the grinds dont go that far in so have they just done it in situ without the head off?? :S

So after a week of nothing due to "Man Flu" I went into the office today and popped her out.

Everything is not to bad to be honest , just needs a good clean up

Found out the top engine mount threaded stub was totally ripped out from the rubber bush its self, another £56 there :banghead:

One question I forgot to ask was how do the inlet and outlet pipes for the heater matrix come out of the bulk head, do you have to sqeeze the sides in ?? if so bloody ell they are stuck on there !

  206,172 Cup,focus,X5
Well , dont know if this is right ? im guessing its not

Locked the crank and bottom the pulley was at the right angle

Then checked the position of the cams and found this ???

The timing coundnt be this far out could it ?
surely it would of ran like a bag of s**t ?

  206,172 Cup,focus,X5
o yea :D but love it so not a problem

ive got so much clean to do as well.

my cam locking tools just turned up as well so im ready to go

  206,172 Cup,focus,X5
100 % locked correctly as i have the sump off. I personally think the crank pulley has floated round slightly when ive undone the bottom pulley

  206,172 Cup,focus,X5
Thought i would pop a few pics of how she stands this morning

Do people fob this unit off, as it wasnt even connected to the intake anymore as the car had a K7N on it, it just had a vacuum from it to the underside of the T.B ??? Is it renaults version of a MAF sensor ?

Cheers Renault, makes life a bit easier

  Cup In bits
BTW you don't touch the 'bottom pulley' or crank pulley until you have checked the timing as it will slip. If you plan to do anymore without the sump off then remove spark plug no1 and put a long cable tie down into the cylinder so you can see TDC.

To answer your question yeah you can bin off the acoustic valve, it was only there to pass initial noise tests before leaving the factory.

First things first , thought i would make good of the C.S tax disc holder as mine isnt really in need of it, well at least its on another french peice of s**t
;)

Below is a before photo of how she looked when i took off the carpet/heat shield

20140314_133223_resized.jpg

As you can see from the background it all came up nicely after a good clean, renault were a bit stiggy with the amount of paint they used under the bonnet TBH, and thats the subframe being painted after a good clean and preasure wash

20140319_135439_resized.jpg

With all the lines taken off cleaned and all put back on this is how she now looks, Im even using the original master cylinder and bottle, they both came up very well after a bit of TLC
20140404_142437_resized.jpg

More Renault bits , what we have here is 2 new outer A.R.B bushes and bolts as one wanted to snap when I took him off and 3 sump bolts as they seemed to want to stay in the block !:quiet:
20140403_122136_resized.jpg

And then 2 new ball joints with new bolts and they also came ith 2 new pinch bolts , happy days
