Fuel pump and pressure regulator

  172 gravel rally
I just had my car dyno'd after having a unichip fitted and the guys doing the tune told me that I may have an issue with the fuel pump as they couldn't improve the air/fuel ratio. Looking at the way the fuel supply lines are set up I'm not sure if it is possible to improve the AFR by increasing fuel pump voltage which is the way the unichip normally does this. Is the fuel pressure regulator in the tank computer controlled or only by the fuel pressure at the regulator? Would the addition of a fuel pressure regulator in the return pipe from the filter increase fuelling?
