Gearbox - Rebuilt or 2nd hand

My gearbox sounds like the synchro mesh has gone. What would be the best option?

Buy the brand new box Paul Mitchells selling
Have the box reconditioned
Or buy a second hand box
I dont have a lot of money to spend so im thinking No1 is out of the question.

Also, are 19 16v boxes the same as in the clio? Would it fit straight on?

Thanks,

David

If my gearbox ever went i think id be tempted by a new one from Renault think there around £600.

I bought a 50k box from a fellow cliosport member, £140 and drives like a dream! Just need to treat this one with some respect!

Thats a bargain! If anyone has one for sale with that sort of mileage please let me know.

Im probably prepared to pay upto about 250, but must be mint & have no play in it.

Cheers

a synchro mesh kit is about £100 and it would be a good idea to replace the gear that is crunching on as well due to it has the friction surface on it that the synchro pushes against. individual gears are about £45. there is then the extra labour (after removing the box) that you will be charged to strip and rebuild it. the difference between a recon box and rebuilding yours may only be about £100 but at least with the recon box you get 12 months parts warranty.
