Got meself another engine 172 Turbo

  Volvo S60 T5

I got myself another engine and gearbox with all the bits on it.

Have plans for it......

Cyclinder head gas ported
Camshaft Re-profile
Stainless steel valves

Block.....

Custom made pistons to lower compression ratio

And a Turbo to be fitted.

Bit concerned about manifold for this anyone got an idea of any companys that manufacture manifold or will I have to custom make it myself?

ECU re-map is a must, any good companys?

Have been looking into this the last few nites.

Anyone got any good suggestions with this.

Would like as much advise and help as possible before I start this project.

Could you not see if k-tec will sel you one seperate they sell the whole kit so they do have access to the parts.

hmm, there were kits floating around last year - everything was there just to be bolted on!

If theyre for sale Im sure someone will tell ya...

Use the megane 225 turbo manifold or similar, if not its not to hard to get a manifold fabricated so ling as you provide them with the design.

As for cams, i would nick the turbo exhast cam off a 255 megane as turbo engien require very different exhaust cam timing to NA engines.

Dont bother with stainless valves, firstly itll cost a fortune to have custom valves made up to your spec, secondly Stainless valves arent all they are cracked up to be, if you want more details just ask.

cheers ben, avantine manifold will be ok then, been checking on dialogys and it looks like the engine is pretty much the same.

So you recon the standard valves will be ok then?

Yea, std valves will be fine, typically made ofthe same stuff (21/4N) on the head but with a EN52B stem friction welded on with a stellite tip. The inlets are normally all medium carbon steel/chromium alloy, but the exhaust valves use stainless heads because they can withstand higher operating temps and retain strength. But, you cant heat treat them, i.e. harden.....so stainless stems tend to wear around the seat/guide and collet grooves especially. So for racing engines where they are repalced often its fine, but its not a long service life item.

Plus, exhausts are probably sodium filled and can transfer heat away from the head better.

What you using as a gearbox and clutch the 172 wont last forever under high loads.

What sort of power you going for?

The clutch is easy to source and uprate, and the box should be able to cope with decent power outputs for an extended service life.

Mike -

Renault do all the bits you need... ;)

Captain Slarty had various engines & turbos kicking about, and 4 full kits were available, but so far nobody has ever fitted one!

My mate bought one for his Cup, but has since sold the car and its just sat there doing nowt, so it could be a good idea to buy it off him and use that!

Comes with turbo, inlet & exhaust manifolds, various other odds & sods...

I had some pics, but I cant bl00dy find them now!
