the company doing the testing was a local company called audio revolution my spl came in at

144.8DB !!!

well chuffed won the loudest car award going to pick up my prize next week :)

was a woofer excursion test 33hz i think...same one everyone used so that the comp was fair
wouldnt say that was fair

different people have setups tuned to different frequencies. SPL at 33hz on your car is likely to be different from 33Hz in someone elses car. What they really should have been using was a sine wave as said above, to test SPL at a range of frequencies - thatd have been fairer imo.

Btw, i loved those subs when I had them.... 144dB sounds an awful lot (obviously depending on what else youre running up front), itd have been interesting if my mates golf had went though ;)

you tested at 33hz and got 144? was it on a thermlab? or an audio control?

as 144 at 33hz very loud, taking into acoutn this car got 150.9 at 31hz (yes i know its quite a lot more and lower freq)

firstly it has 4xMmats 18" in a wall with 12k rms,

notice the sub missing!!! (from the previous vid)

This car is crazy, roof move up and down by about 3 inches (with doors wide open)

For spl you should be burping much higher than that (if you are driving a small car!) so that you maximise cabin gain, i think best freq for a clio is about 57hz,

Sorry but i fail to see you car hitting 144 DB with those subs No way no chance in hell!!!

I run A genisis 5 channel amp with focal K2 components all round and a 15inch poly kevlar sub and i hit 142 at peak!!

Sorry but those pioneers would blow up at that volume!!

They must have messed up the recording!!

well, if it was an audio control mic, they can be oput by around 6db and if it was an audio control epic, well those things can be out by about 9db!!! and even more if they in different place in the car

i would be willing to bet it wasnt a thermlab, which is the only standard sensor on the market.

Adding to the fact that i would imagine those subs are sealed, so the would drop off considerably towards lower freq.

That seems bloody high for 2 x12s sealed as well.

Was your engine running? (THis can add 2v to the amps)

What amp are you running?

  2004 Clio 1.2 16v

ok boys dont hold back lol

i said i thought it was 33hz not to sure tho was a cd that they gave us went from really high to really bassy

ive got infinity components front and rear running off a 4ch 800w legacy amp and a mrd f350 monoblock amp running the two subs

the engine was running

cant really see the reading being wrong as a while back i had a test reading of 132.6 with one sub running off a sh*tty amp but hey everyone else knows best eh....!

with all due respect fella ive been in the audio business for nearly 5 years now and it is impossible to get 144+dbs with what youve got there.

Im running 870watts RMS through two 12inch diamond audio m6 subwoofers and 200watts RMS through m6 components up front (16cm naturally ;))

Amplification comes from a DLS A6 and A3, mine ran 133.3DB at sextons in swansea (although im from cardiff) this was using the ISACA microphone positioning (by headrest) outlaw test (i.e. mic where u want it ) I saw 138.9DB with seats forward

I agree I was only getting 139 with 400 RMS into a vented 12 inch DL MW12 with the engine on, so about 136-7 with it off I reckon

On the new mics I will prob only be around the 131 mark :-(

However anything is possible ;-)

hmmmmm, im not sure about that... but i dont know enough about spl testing to argue it but it does sound a lil far fetched!

i got about 132.4 or somet...

& i say that because im running 2 10" HCCA competition series 1 Orion subwoofers in a 2 x 1.4cuft ported boxes
& thats running off a Directed 1500d monoblock which runs at 1500rms at 1ohm, i am currently running it at 0.5 ohm.

The other components of my system is focal polykevlar 3 way components (in custom builds with the 4" mid & tweeter on the dash) which are being run off two genesis amps (one for the left & one for the right)

Does my readout seem right? or should it be higher?

Sounds like 144 is a bit silly looking at the guys installs who are geting 130 odd. Decibels are a logrithmic ratio of change and not a unit of sound as such. Thus the difference between 130 and 144 is a f**king lot!!!

Hmmm

I would place the chances of that being impossible, 144.8? how many WRMS you putting into the subs, they are seales aswell, so port them and gain another 3 DB???? :O

well im afraid that even the experts who have been in the audio business for so many years have been proven wrong

i myself was at this show and my car was also tested - it wasnt tested at just 33hz it was tested right throught the whole ranges

as for every1 saying its not possible for this system 2 have reached this figure, then ur very much mistaken - since the system is set up properly with the amp set correctly and hes usin the designed boxes with exact measurements of wats specified for best quality on these subs and it is decent stuff hes usin then i dont c how it isnt possible for him to get this reading

also bear in mind he has no back seats now also which will let mroe sound throught the car also!

cheers steve.......

well went to the company that tested the car and they assured me that the test was a proper test with a proper spl meter so i guess u guys just arent doin it right lol

as for all the experience you guys are talking about audio revolution have over 20 years experience so i guess well all just have to agree to disagree but ill happily get the car tested at the fcs

what right up to 20kHz? cos if the mic was close to a tweeter you might get that reading but not from those subs no matter how right they were set up

so were all wrong then? is that what your saying?

Im sorry but im still unconvinced, if anything i think itd be harder to achieve a higher SPL with the rear seats removed. IHMO of course

  2004 Clio 1.2 16v

basically....yep.

everyone is establishing a view by one pic only wee_steve has actually heard the setup this coupled by the fact that the company doing the testing were also v surprised at the reading makes me think that people are too quick to make assumptions.....there is also a hint of jealousy mixed in too.

im not disputing anyones knowledge in the field i have very little but i think to make a judgement on a sound system u need to hear it....

What genesis you running mate?

Ive got a profile 5.....love it!

ur right - u need 2 b in car 2 hear the full extent of the system!

how can i system sound worse with the back seats removed??? the sound is not being blocked by the back seats which deaden the sound!

audio revolution r the top audio specialists in scotland by far, and with them being surprised bout the reading then its the same with u lot - who havnt even heard the install!!!!

i myself was also surprised with the result, my eyes widened a hell of alot once martin told me the result since my mate who is runnin virtually the same only got 136dB!

i think theres 2 many ppl on their high horse here that reckon they no better!

if it played upto 20khz, it could have easily been ur tweeters being picked up, try burping a say 57hz tone, see how that works,

Also if you try spl again, you arent meant to play sweeps, you should brup (play the tone for about a second) at specific freq.

Finnaly, an spl meter? what type, as i have said some can be hugly out, if there were in fact using a mic, then the chances are the meter isnt that acurate, a sensor from a thermlab is the only really internationally accepted devise now.

But if in fact, you have done 144, then i sugest you take your system to a idbl event and see how u do
