Got myself a megane.

  Ph2 Meg 225
Few updates to add, generally just smartening the car up Abit. First off the car passed its mot with no advisories which was a bonus.
- had new engine mounts fitted.
-Added a short shifter and a properfekt recirculation valve which was Abit tricky to fit, crap photo of the recirc valve.

image.jpeg

Got some silicone boost hoses from ikon Motorsport in black.

image.jpeg

Next up was the interior centre dash panel. The standard one fitted to the car was quite tatty and worn with scratches and missing patchy paint so this got replaced for one sourced off eBay. Not sure if the pattern is standard or has been hydrodipped but looks well I think.

image.jpeg

In the interior I noticed a few other people's Meganes had the ash tray/coin bin which mine was missing so bought a new one.

image.jpeg

fitted some forge pressure sensor clamps.

image.jpeg

when I had new front discs fitted I painted them before hand but the paint didn't stick very well as there must have been traces of oil on them. Fast forward a few months and they got pretty rusty, no before shots as I always forget but here's a couple of afters.

image.jpeg

image.jpeg

Engine cover was looking very tired so sprayed that in some silver paint I had knocking around and got some replacement stickers.

image.jpeg

Sadly to my dissapointment the felt under lining on the bonnet is sagging in the middle and has rubbed against my nice new spray job, gutted!

image.jpeg

Fitted some FIA rear stickers because r26 wannabe...

More to come....

Couple more bits have been done. I originally wanted a new exhaust system but have other things I'd rather spend money on first, so with that in mind I took the car to Midlands Renault specialists to have the not so nice standard exhaust tips changed to marks custom ones.

Quick before of the standard oval shaped ones.

image.jpeg

Nice shiny new ones now fitted and looking a lot better in my opinion!

image.jpeg

image.jpeg

image.jpeg

After having this done mark pointed out the exhaust mount was completely shot, nice new one ordered from kam racing. Can anybody tell which is the new one?

image.jpeg

One thing that has always let the interior down is the should be silver seatbelts. After years of grime build up I couldn't bare to look at them any longer so got to work cleaning them, no jet wash or steam cleaner used like people suggest!

-Started off by unreeling the seatbelts and clamping them with some clothes pegs
-sprayed bilt hamber surfex apc (diluted) and scrubbed with some tooth brushes.
-wiped clean with a dry microfibre
- sprayed with autobrite fab interior cleaner and agitated with a different tooth brush
-wiped clean with a different dry microfibre to keep the heavily soiled one from smearing much back in to the clean seatbelt
-left to dry in the heat for an hour.

I think pictures speak a thousand words with this and I genuinely couldn't believe how dirty they actually were. Took around 2 hours in total minus the drying time

Wheels are also booked in for a refurb in a couple of weeks as two are badly kurbed (not me!) so I'm looking for recommendations for a good wheel sealant?

  Ph2 Meg 225
Loving this. Great mods and it's looking really tidy now!

Cheers mate, it's getting there once the wheels have been refurbished its in pretty good condition apart from stone chips and a scratched interior grab handle which I'll be sorting soon.

Few more deliveries come today, started stock piling parts ready for when it makes a trip back to ddc.
Powerflex upper engine mount insert
Powerflex upper gearbox mount insert
Some zinc coated jubilee clamps For a forge straight boost pipe I'm waiting on, 3 weeks wait direct from forge!

  Ph2 Meg 225
Just been to collect this from Ashbourne. 3 hour round trip in the sunshine and some decent roads made for a good Sunday morning.

R26r spoiler. Will be getting painted to match the car in a few weeks when I'm back off holiday, can't decide whether to have the centre hole on the bootlid welded and filled or just stick a Bung in it.

Can anyone tell me what's in the fitting kits for the spoilers?

You'll need the allen bolts, foam sticky pads (I made my own) ive got the template if you want. There are some plastic guides you'll need (or can be brave and try Mark the holes some other way).

Grommet for hole you can get off ebay, it yeah can weld and spray

Yeah a template would be good dan if you don't mind? The bolts aren't a problem also as they're m6 I just need to figure out the length of them

No probs, pm me your email? Id ask on the forums if anyone has the guides tho, they're really useful. My bodyshop used a second hand set as a lad had his fitted there a couple of weeks before from new.

  Ph2 Meg 225
Changed the fixings holding the battery cover on, the plastic trim clips were working loose after a while so needed to be changed. Made a new bracket and tapped an m6 thread into where the fixing holes would be, bought some stainless countersunk Allen bolts and some blue anodises washers. Nice little touch I think!

Now for probably the biggest update yet. Got the r spoiler dropped off at the spray shop last week to be matched to my car and got it fitted Saturday. With the spoiler being second hand it didn't come with the fitting kit, I sourced all the parts in the original and made my own.

Removing the old spoiler went okay but the old foam glue was a pita to remove, this is what's left after separating the old spoiler from the roof.

image.jpeg

The roof had some minor scratches from where the grit from under the spoiler?? Had dragged across the paint work when cutting through the glue (using plastic pallet strapping with a blunt edge) so was wet sanded with 2500 and machine polished, anyway here's some quick photos with the spoiler fitted...

Not updated this for a while. Been thinking about an exhaust for a while and finally I’ve took the plunge on a second hand one that came up local! Its a ktec 3” catback system, it was up for £350 with the ktec 3” decat but wasn’t bothered about this for various reasons so made a deal for £250 without. Pictures from the add

As you can see from the above it needs a good clean and coked up heavily inside the tips. Apart from that it’s like new no dints or scrapes and the flexi isn’t damaged. Spent a few hours polishing the back box section with autosol and some 0000 wire wool and got the results below.

Looks good. Good job on the exhaust!
Cheers mate! Could have spent longer sanding all the minor pitting out but just wanted to smarten it up.

Also had ddc do the full cambelt kit, aux and water pump. Been on a bit of a purge to freshen the car up and make it mint so with that in mind the Bonnet carpet lining had to go. With it sagging due to age it has been rubbing on the engine cover and worn away the paint, also every time you touched it the fibres would come off in your hand so was time for the bin.

Looks much better now it’s removed.

And the area of the engine cover which it’s been rubbing against, shame really as it was painted not long ago. Bought the stickers for it so it Will be getting re done when I get time.

Fog lights looked quite tired and chipped so managed to source some genuine Valeo ones for around £20 each. Big saving compared to £58 each from RPD

I’ve also bought a new genuine splitter for around £75 and fitted it. I’ve tried a few universal splitters (as can be seen above) but wasn’t happy with them and my original was heavily scuffed. No photos currently of the new one.

Had the ktec exhaust fitted. Has a nice deep tone, quite loud when having a spirited drive but still tame driving round town.

In the last few weeks it’s also had a new driverside drivshaft as the old one was clicking when turning. Also with the bad weather one night in particular with it being -7 the handbrake has seized, when trying to free it off from rolling one of the handbrake cables snapped with the wheel not showing signs of moving. Had the car recovered to ddc and had 2 new cables fitted.

Started painting the engine cover just needs clear coating

That looks great!

Tempted by a slightly narrower plate? Not sure if I've seen many megs with them but I'm sure it'll look better with a few mm shaved off.

Appreciate the comments guys!

Cheers mate! Engine cover may have gone tits up when clearcoating so will have to look when Im home :weary:

Thank you
It’s getting there now I have thought about it before, would probably look better but after running one on the 1.2 a couple of years ago and getting pulled a few times I’m not sure I could be bothered with hassle again

Fitted a new genuine Renault front splitter yesterday, tried a few different universal ones but wasn’t happy with how they looked so went back to standard. Finishes the front end off nicely!

The photos above had a genuine splitter on which had only been on since February but with the car being low it got damaged when being recovered. Me being anal had to replace it.

Future plans are:
-Have the front end resprayed as With the front end having new plate, splitter and fog lights the stone chips let it down.
-Have the car on a rolling road to see what it’s running.
-possible full leather recaros if I come across a set.

Very tidy!

Looks great. A nice change from some of the unloved 225s that are kicking about now

Dude this looks amazing

Cheers everyone!

This is in great order, not many about that have been cared for!

Appreciate the comment! trying to get it to the same standard the flame red 172 was. Once the front has been resprayed I’ll be happy. After being out in my mates dc5 above though I’m kind of tempted by one :grimacing:

Hmm got to be honest, i didn’t personally think much of the DC5 i went out in warrantied the premium they command.

Went out in a race base EK9 years ago and i was simply blown away with how that cornered, not a fan of VTEC but that EK9 really struck a cord with me.

For the last few weeks I’ve been looking at evo 8’s and Nissan s15’s and I must admit I’ve been very tempted but with me and the girlfriend wanting to get a house (mainly due to me wanting a garage) the money would be better spent on a house deposit.

With that in mind I’ve decided to keep the megane for another year and spend abit more money on it doing some bits I’ve been meaning to do for a while.

Here’s my recent purchase...

As can be seen I’ve bought a pretty much mint set of full leather recaros! They only have a couple of marks on one of the plastic backs but apart from that they’re in great condition.

They’re on lowered mounts aswell so should have a nice seating position over standard, spent a couple of hours giving them a good clean and condition so will be getting fitted in the next couple of weeks.

The front of the car will also be getting resprayed over summer due to stone chips.

I don't think running an EVO and saving for a house go together that we'll, probably a good choice to keep the Meg a bit longer pal! Besides it's a lovely example too.

The leather Recaro trendlines are great. My mrs has them in her ph1 225 lux.

I prefer them to the Half leathers if I’m honest they are a great looking seat. Did you fit them in your mrs’ car? Just curious as to if they will need a resistor for the airbag plug?

yeah they certainly don’t hahah!
I’ve had a few people tell me to scratch the itch of an evo before buying a house as once your a home owner you’ll never have spare cash as it will be spent on the house.

Just took a unit on at work (2 man army consisting of me and my dad) so may look at getting a project car to restore like a classic Subaru ?

Fitted them myself straight in. I had the seat airbags turned off with clip to save messing about with resistors. Looks very similar to yours albeit ph1. Fitted r26 lsd box in it last year the difference is night and day, if yours is on stock box its well worth the upgrade.

Few things to update since last time I fitted, Had new genuine rear discs and pads fitted at ddc.

dropped the car off today to have the bonnet, front bumper, wings and mirror caps repainted as they suffered with a lot of stone chips and road rash. Hopefully get it back at the weekend but here’s some photos from today.

This is brilliant, I absolutely love this car and all the work you've done to it.

What’s the common faults on these usually? Can't say ive looked into them to much as ive just known them to have lots of problems? or is that a myth?

Great looking car this, love the colour...… some really nice upgrades been done along the way too! ?

Cheers mate!

Appreciate the kind words! ?

Not many problems really no more than your average car. The main faults are the window regulators fail (usually when you’ve got the window open, and the swivel hubs need the needle bearings replacing. Apart from that it’s just general maintenance like the cam belts etc

It’s a great car in all honesty, I keep looking at Nissan s15s at the moment which I’m tempted by but I’ll probably keep this for another 6 months or so till I’ve bought a house then look at getting one.

Who is doing the spraying for you mate?

24hours or free in Barnsley. they’ve done my spray work for the last couple of years albeit only minor parts like spoilers and mirror caps but do a great job. I’ll post some pictures up once it’s collected ?
