Had My Clio 182 Rolling Roaded

On Sunday I had my Clio 182 rolling roaded at Peugeot Ecosse with the gtiowners club website. (my previous car was a 106 GTi)

I was happy with how it got on giving 179bhp @ flywheel and 137bhp @ wheels. My car is totally standard but the big surprise was it made more bhp than a modified Clio 182.

The modified Clio 182 had a Viper induction kit, a Janspeed full stainless cat back exhaust system and a de-cat pipe and only made 176bhp. Any ideas why these mods would have lost it power?

viper mite have been sucking in cold air?, just out of interest to those that know, if a lightened flywheel was put onto a standard car, how much more would it make at the wheels?

I think K-tecs flywheel is 3kg lighter. wat extra would this let hit the floor 10 hp?

Good figures mate !

Not sure why the other one made less though, maybe a not so healthy engine ? sure some of the other peeps on here will have more of an idea

The only difference between the cars other than the mods is mine has done 12k miles and the modded one has done 25k miles. Both were on a 55 plate.

I thought induction kits were meant to suck the cold air in?!?! :argue:

Ive heard the inlet on the 182 can be a bit hit and miss? The viper will not give many if any benefits at all if setup right, setup wrong and it will probably explain it. As for decat, more noise than power to be fair unless there has been other engine mods.

if the modded clio got a remap and manifold match then it should be looking at mid to late 180's and possibly early 190's with those mods

I'd expect the car with more milage on it to perform better usually. RR aren't 100% accurate though, so expect a 5% error rate even on the same RR, could be anything from tyre pressures to loss of traction.

IK's are meant to suck in cold air, take no notice of the above confused comment. His problems would be if the IK sucked in hot air, a la heatsoak. Was his car remapped at all?

42 bhp transmission loss!

24%? Not likely for a FWD car. RR's are bullshit. Or rather the operators are. I would say a healthy 182 should be making 145-150 atw.

There's a pattern with these RR days. the owners tell the customers what they want to hear so they go away happy and will come back next time.

Most modern cars need a re-map with any mods you add.Most engine management nowadays wont allow much to be altered with an air filter and exhaust

Yep, you've picked the problem.

24% lost between flywheel and road is wrong.

Any competent dyno operator would have looked at that and said at least to themself "hold on, that can't be right".

18% tranny losses sound about right, which would put it at 161-162bhp, as there's no way 137 @ the wheels is 179 @ the fly... then again if it's as quick as most other 182's on the road then you could argue it's accurate... or Renault are lying to us on power figures.

I think mine was around 139.*bhp at the wheels, which came out at to be 169bhp & 170.1bhp at the fly.

I reckon my places just take a guess and make up a graph.

His car hasnt been remapped.
i think ecosse is just telling him what he wants to hear to be honest telling him he needs a cat in again, and change his piperx for a K&N. think they want sales. lol

never went there with my 106 defo wouldnt be taking advice on how to do up my clio from a pug specialist. lol

A lighter flywheel won't give you any more power, but may make your car 'faster'. A flywheel is there to smooth the nasty vibrating 4 pot we've got stuck under our bonnets. A flywheel resists rpm changes basically.

By putting a lighter one on, it resists change less easily, ie; it will rev more freely. This probably won't make a noticable difference on the motorway (as the change in rpm you can achieve is slow anyway), but in first or second gear, you may experience a small gain in lateral acceleration.

The downside is it will be less capable of smoothing your engine, and may virbate horibly at idle.

some engines are really good as compared to others , yours on lower mileage still has potential atm to get quicker .

^^^The other cars that went on were:

* Civic 1.6 V-tec
* Focus RS
* 206 GTi
* MGZ-S
* Clio 182 x2
* 106 GTi x3
* Ibiza 1.8T

LOL, yeah, might not have been down to just the Viper though Fred... I'm sure the decat, exhaust, group N and it being totally stripped made more of a difference. Who knows, may have done a 13.8 with a panel filter ;)

yes there was, get over it you we scotish girl, you bought the slowest RS clio going, and then spent over the odds trying to make it faster, your fault, not mine! just because you were too gay to handle a cup

Martin, some are better than others as standard. Mine made 179brake on star performances rolling road. I was happy with that as other people complained of their power being down.

A matched inlet manifold is a good value for money mod on any 2.0 Clio RS
