Happy birthday 182 - 20-years-old today

Seems a long time ago since I picked it up new from Renault Manchester in Salford, with 7 delivery miles on the clock.

176k, three house moves and one divorce later - it's still my daily.

Scary to think that I was 29 when I ordered it and 50 in twelve-days time. :) I even recall some insurance companies being 'evasive' for a quote, because I wasn't yet 30!

I'd have loved one of these when they were new as they drive so differently when they're factory, from one that's been messed around with.

My insurance quote has just come back for my 182 with e-sure and it's £12.12 per month. My leased Sportage is £900 p.a. I can't get my head around it.

Well done chap .

I had mine on the 30th April 2004 . 91k and 20 years later it unfortunately got abandoned on the back of my drive 5 years ago .
Had to many kids and needed a golf

Hopefully I can get it back on the road over the next 18 months

mad isn’t it.

The Aston is the second cheapest car I own to insure (after the clio).

That is well cheap! Mine has gone up in recent years, started at a very fitting £182 per year 😍

  182 Trophy Rs265
The Trophy costs me only £152 per year which is very good value in my view - however that works out at £1.50 per mile in 2024 which is an improvement over 2023 at £5.42.

Your right Jon about how they drive when they’re brand new - I bought the Wife a new 172 in 2002 which cost only £10300, drove a dream with no squeaks or rattles.

Mine feels like that now with all the work that’s gone in to it.

Albeit firm as it’s pretty ‘track spec’

Got a little interior squeak from somewhere and I can't seem to apply any logic as to where its coming from or when and how it does it. Can do it driving smooth and straight, sometimes under braking, maybe cornering? I suspect it's something to do with the passenger seat, which is empty for 90% of the time - but it still does even with someone sat there.

  Clio 172 cup phase 2
I’ve had my 172 Cup for 11 years only do around 1500 miles in the summer months, I don’t think I could sell, don’t want that option of s**t I should never sold that car, been there before 😏

I didnt think i'd find someone with a similar story as mine, picked up my 182 cup new in June 2004 (bought it online which was a pretty strange thing to do back then!). I still remember the chap in the office saying great car, but you should have gone for the white go faster stripes :). Its been my daily driver until this january, im 52....sadly a job move required motorway miles and reliability (although the clio only broke down once with an exploded alternator).

Its on 178k and in pretty good nick for 20 years, spent a load on new clutch and belts last year but now its SORN at the end of drive awaiting my son to take it over...maybe. I replaced it with a GR Yaris, which although excellent I cant see it lasting another 20 years!!.....and i find the sheer number button, knobs and screens of a modern car just annoying (n)

My 182 is coming up to 19 years ownership from new in February 2025. If I'd waited a couple of weeks it would have been an 06 plate.
It's only got 125k on the clock so not too high mileage for its age.
It's had a s**t load of money thrown at it in the past few years, mainly on the body work as well as the usual servicing. Still scrubs up well though 😁
