Head Lamp Washers Not the Usual!

Hi all

Just picked up a 172 MOT failure and am trying to fix the head lamp washers on which it failed. Regrettably I am unable to ascertain the fault.

First of all I have replaced both pumps in the bottle and each when tested off the car they both pump fine.

When installed I turn the lights on pull the wash wipe stalk for at least 10 second and only the windscreen one pumps. I check the power feed ( pink and grey wires) to the headlamp washer pump with the lights on and pulling the wash wipe stalk using a multi meter but there is no power coming through. Relays 5 and 6 on the reverse of the UCH do not seem to be being activated/clicking.

I suspect either the stalks or UCH however cannot find a wiring diagram for the 172.

Anyone come across this before or know what the issue may be?

Regards

Johnny

Just to update I am no further forward in resolving this issue.

I have independantly (using an external supply) checked the relays attached to the UCH and all are working as they should when receiving power. There is also power to fuse F33 (the headlamp washer fuse).

Having acquired a RS Tuner box I duly connected it and found no fault codes other than one for the airbag (Its currently not connected). Presumably if I had an issue with the UCH in regards to the headlamp washers then RS Tuner would bring it up? I have attached (hopefully) a screen print of RS Tuner below.

Dialogys gives recommendations for a few checks which all seem fine when I have followed them however it contains no wiring diagrams/colour of wiring to follow(not that I could find). Not sure really where to go now other than an auto electrician (any recomendations Southampton area).

Anyone got any ideas.

Kind regards

Johnny

If you want the simplest fix (and cheapest), fit headlight washer blanks instead. They cant fail an MOT if they are not present to be tested. Other than that I have no other ideas/suggestions im affraid. Good luck!

Might be a stupid question but are you pulling the stalk more than once? Pretty certain it only works on every other pull of the stalk.

On the other hand, like has been said, you don't have to have them for MOT, it's just that if they're present they should work. Same with the spare and it being legal. Bit of a bodge but how about just removing them?

Thanks for the replies. Bodging it is a last resort but at least it would pass the MOT.

I have tried the switch in all manner of scenarios but to no avail.

Thanks again.
