**HELP** 2k Idle on ph1 172

  Honda Integra Type R
Hey,

When sitting at junctions or depressing the clutch the engine idles at 2k then as i blip the throttle it will go down to 1,1.5k

The fuel consumption is horrendous also just over 100 miles to £20 32-33mpg recorded on the trip computer.

I bought a new Idle control valve from work today and fitted it, turned it over and it started idling around 4k.

Phoned a work mate and he said the new ICV may have to be set on the CLIP *Diagnostic Machine*

So i left the old one sitting a good 10 mins in WD40 re-fitted it but still has a 2k idle.

The car is slowly starting to piss me off. Love it otherwise.

Any help much appreciated

nope they dont need setting up mate, iv replaced mine and it was fine as soon as i fitted it, it sounds like you had an airleak, try it again

Throttle body spring fucked, common problem, lots going at the moment. My ghetto fix

You can tell if it's the spring. Pop the hood, give the car a few revs until it idles at 2k. Then manually try and close the throttle (ie turn the plastic wheel). If the revs die to a normal idle, that's yoiur problem.

Yea the throttle cable did cross my mind.

Also the rubber 'o'ring on the ICV on my old one it was carboned up i turned it round and was fine for a while.

No air leaks as soon as i switch to the old ICV its fine.
Car is doing my box in.

Edit:- Will go hav a looky just now cheers for the help :D

Sounds like the common TB spring problem or the cable. As your able to blip the throttle and it brings the revs down could be more like the cable as from my experience the spring is more stubborn, ie takes more than simply blipping the throttle to bring the revs down.

All this dosent explain the poor mpg tho. Airleak would tie in with poor mpg but you cant usually bring the revs down.

Let the car rev up and see if the black cable holder on the TB is going fully back to the idle position on the stopper. That'll give you a starter

mine is doing exactly the same as yours and is doing the same mpg as yours....im also wanting to know what to do..mines a 2000 x ph1 172

Ive let the car idle and as it rises ive turned the throttle body round and it idles perfect. ive lubricated the spring with wd40 but it still sticks when idling. Looking like a new throttle body. But not prepared to pay the best part of £100 for one thats priced to me and i work for renault. :(

Any suggestions. like the spring idea but wouldnt mind something more practical

Yea the fuel consumption is hitting my wallet hard. Spoke to one of our mechanics and in his 172 cup he gets around 180 miles to £20 which would be ideal but im getting around 100miles :(

I have a pipercross induction kit and cat back & a dodgy idle. take it this is the answe to my bad mpg?

We had this on our track car, Makes idle cruise control thouggh :D IIRC ours was just a sticky cable

  clio rs 2000
i have a similar problem
i have lubricate tb with motor oil itis more efficient from wd 40
and checked the idle valve
if your idle is on 2k take over it and turn it half a turn anticlock wise then put it back
you can arrange your idle speed like that
my problem is when you depress the clutch the idle shakes and iti is over 1k while driving
but when you stop it idles at 750-800(normal place)
i think there is a air leak but where i cant find it
i have checked tje all manifold and hoses that comes to tb and manifolr
any idea from you ?

50% discount to Renault workers on parts :eek::S

100 quid and its sorted, just pay it job done. ;)

Still shouldnt effect mpg by that much. You sure one of the lambdar sensors is not away? Imo you maybe have two issues with it

No its not the sensors as ive just had the car mot'd and the sensors were fine with the emissions

50% i wish.
I get parts at Cost + 10% + Vat :(
Still a hefty amount off.

The lambda would throw on the EML light i would imagine.

Ive noticed aswell when ur cruising in a low gear i.e first the car wants to pull even tho ur not accelerating due to the throttle not being closed properly.

Ive noticed on the Throttle body theres a screw with locktight on it (The throttle stop) will there b any difference adjusting this

Adjusting the throttle stop made no difference to mine, the throttle will still stick at the same point.

No dont adjust the throttle stop gromit. All you need to check is to see if the holder is going back into position ie, sitting up against the stopper.

If its a spring on the TB or cable fault you'll usually find at least a 2mm gap. Close the gap and the car idles back to normal if this is the prob.

No its not the sensors as ive just had the car mot'd and the sensors were fine with the emissions

Doubt that would make much or any difference to showing whether a lambdar was away?

Yea this is the fault the throttle stop isnt stopping at the grommit.
looking like a new throttle body tbh

It would do as it would fail its emmissions

Not convinced about a MOT pass is concrete proof both lambda's are working fine.

Over to the experts for that one :)
