Help Bent Con rods!!!

Most impressive case of someone making their engine go hydraulic was about 8 years ago at work. E32 750iL the bloke had driven into deep standing water and the engine must have sucked up enough water to put a pint down each cylinder. Needless to say the engine shat itself hard, 4 pistons complete with mangled conrods were spat out of the block. Two exited through the sump the other two went out sideways, game over, water 1 bmw 0.

sorry guys!

dunno what i was on, some how thought i read a bit of metal got into the engine, not water!!

must stop taking those disco biscuits!!

Pug GTi 6's have a habit of doing this due to the airbox nearly being on the floor.

High number of 5 series (in particular the tourings) used to suffer. Part due to the location of air feed and part due to the c*nts that owned them. They clearly thought they were driving a panzer that can hit 2 to 3 ft of standing water at 30 to 70 mph without consequence, c***s!

lol, my g/f was driving us to the gym the other night, and we came into a dip, and there was a puddle about 50ft long. I would have turned around and gone the other way...

...she just plows on through, whilst I'm sat there in shock. How she didn't flood the engine I'll never know.

As long as the airbox is at the top then its going to be fine. If you have a viper or similar with fog air feed then you will have problems

even at 30mph?

I went through a ford about a foot deep in my old 1.4 as fast as i could cos i thought it would be funny. Wasnt so funny when my rear pasenger nearly drowned had to spend about 2 hours drying it all out!!! No engine damage though.

All the water came in through the fuel pump flap under the seat

Women and techology mate. typical. Saying that I drowned a man and his dog the other night by hitting a puddle at 40mph on the side of the road. He even waved is fists! lol! It was an accident too!

ouch flooding aint pretty i work at a truck garage even with the intake pretty much at the top of the cab ive seen hydraliced trucks and with 2liters on each piston it makes a hell of a mess a con rod shot thru the head and thru the passenger seat in the cab the driver was proper lucky (if ur wondering how the water got in was just a loose intake pipe draging on the floor !!!!!!!!) even then this was repairable each piston has its own head alot cheaper lol altho if urs is down on compression i dnt hold up much hope for it u may even have warped the head
escorts are the best my dad locked his up drained it out and it ran fine !!! amazing

I did the same thing, only bent 1 rod! Engine out, changed rod, rebuilt and back in! U'll need head gasket and timing belt kit! May as well do them while it's out. I've a full set of rods with pistons. Give me a shout if ya need them or run in2 any diffs with the rebuild. Ur lookin at bout 350 labour!

  Audi TT 225 Quattro
id say replace the whole engine, price of getting the block sorted then codrod then labour will be more expensive than a striaght swap

Replacement engine from a scrap yard is about £900. As I said labour is about £350, new rod/used rod not that expensive. New gasket £50 new timing belt kit £90 (u'll need this on a replacement engine as well) Cost of repairing engine approx £550. Cost of new engine £900 + belt + fitting. Looking at about £300 to fit. So approx £1300? Ino which I'd prefer. Also, if u've the engine already stripped to find 1 con rod is broken u've half the work done. Is the cylinder ok? Or is it scratched?

^Dan is correct, and the pistons also

for the record the timing belt kit is £150, aux belt kit is £107

then you'll need new headbolts and gasket set also

just replace the engine

You will still need to replace the timing belt on the new engine anyway?
