help me, asap! suspension

chavy boy, please dont move this, as i just need some quick help and ppl ont reply in mechanics!

right, im in the process of fitting my suspension, iv removed the 2 bolds, to get the strut off my car, when i have come un do the top bolt on the top of the strut, the whole shocker is turning :(

so iv bolted it all back up but its still turning, how can i stop it?

yeh you do mate, on most cars

the thing is the nut is set down so far, you wont get a spanner down there and need to use a ratchet :(

i knwo how you feel mate - i did the same on my VTS and had the same prob. I did have the right spanner tho (ones with z shape end - cant think of the name!) but still couldnt do it

I cheated in the end tho - took both struts off, and took them down the local tyre/susp fitters for them to do it! cost me peanuts, and no swearing involved!

sir volks, the only thing is, whit out that spanner u can get the strut off?

the worst bit is, looks like sum c**ts had a shot at lowering my valver b4, as the f**king alen key bit is a circle

f**ked off now, i couldnt give a sh*t about the struts etc, might just grind them to pieces so i can fit the new gear

any other ideas how i can get it off before i resort to action like that!

Well, i took the complete strut off each side of the car, then went down to the local susp fitters with the replacement springs and shocks to go on, and both the front struts. They then took the lot to peices and replaced the springs and shocks for me. Cost me bout £10.

yes, i know that mate, the thing is, i only want the strut of the car, but it wont come off until i und the bolt and allen key bit, its not possible

i can rebuild the strut when its off my car, i only need the top mount
 


I know what your saying - i think the set up compaired to what my vts was, is different to yours! On mine you had to remove the strut before you take the top nut off. I see on yours that you have to take the top nut off before you can take the strut out.

bugger... have you been using a swan neck spanner? thats the only way i know of getting that out anyways :( soz dude

yeh, its not the swan neck tho, its the fact that the shocker allen bit is rounded, both are infact, so how else can i get them out! :(

take it down the garagr get them to rattle them of with an air gun if not i have a set of standards front shocks in the shed if u need then

i dont need any shocks mate, as i have an apex full 60mm kit waiting to go on, with there shocks, i just need this b*****d bold off, i know an air gun would probs get it loose with out the need for the rounded alen bit, but im not isnsured on the car to take it any where :(

im just sorting it out to look smart then getting a full paintjob done on it, then i will insure it

any ideas how i can get that bit out?!

or should i just cut through the shock with a cutting disc? i cant see how i could mind
 


hold the main piston on the strut with mole grips you can get one in between the springs coils only do this if you are throwing the shox tho

aint got any mole grips, but thats another idea, will give that a shot and buy some grips 2moro

and i will try the mole grips hopefully my front end shall be down 70mm 2moro

i had the local machine company attack them earlier

and no where sells a swan neck with a big enough neck!

lol i would do that mate, i just need the correct swan neck the one i have only has a slight bend in it, need a big bend then i can have fun with the rounded allen lol
