High mileage Vee's...?

Alot of talk of these this weather, got me thinking...

Has anyone negotiated high mileage i.e above 80/90k? how do the 3.0l V6 engines take it? Obviously the F4R's take a fair beating with little or no drama if there cared for so how do the Vee's fair up...? Never see any with more than 60k on it and if they do there Phase 1's.....

Anyone?

Just a big pain to sell on, traditionally if its over 30k there is a struggle, most iv seen is a 60k mile phase 1 on pheads a while ago

People will realise before long that it's pointless buying one on miles. I bought a 'high mileage' one because it had been looked after. Didn't look like it had covered 35 miles, let alone 35,000.
 
I've seen a mk1 on 72k & Mk2 on about 60k. I treat them the same was a as I would do a rarer more expensive car - high mileage for me is a bit of a no go.
Average p.a. on most cars is 10 -12k, on a Vee about 5k p.a. is average.

I do agree about the engine being a lazy one, it'll go on forever. For me low miles & low owners, plus a minter is the way to go.


That car above is Plantex's old car, he had it up for £8500 when he sold it the other month.

Very true that, i honestly dont think id have a problem buying one with 60/70k so long as service history was religious enough...?

Yeah, as long as they're maintained I don't think there can be any showstoppers particularly.

Like that Phase 1 vee, those wheels but that seems a bit on the high side at 9k does it not...?

If it's had FSH it's easily got enough bits (£1200 suspension anyone?!) to justify it's price. Whether it's worth it, depends on how much someone pays for it.

Yep, one of eight blue mk1's (excluding the Walkinshaw one)

Yeah you are right, I don't reckon it would be up for sale for long (when I come to sell, the ad's i've put in at shows were just to see if someone wanted it - i've never actually done a proper ad for it)

Humming and hawing, dont really think i could afford to at the moment, ill probably wait until i re arrange the mortgage and that, thats a wee while away so ill see...!

Wish id bought one when i stayed with my folks lol.....

theres some ph2s in the 60k+ and quite a few of ph1's are 70k+

nothing wrong with it, as long as its been serviced well!

wouldnt put me off as long as the price was right, one of the nicest ph2s i know of is on 60k+

theres one vee abroad on over 120k at last count.

My last vee (phase 1) I sold with 60k on the clock with fsh and belts change. It was checked over by a specialist who actually admitted he would rather buy a higher and well used mileage car than one with low mileage and has never been used. The reason? A well used car will inheritantly have less problems with it than a car that just sits there in a garage seizing up. I dont think people understand that a car is built to be used rather than just sit there. These are modern cars which need to be driven. My current vee has 57k on the clock and it has no knocks/squeaks/rattles and the engine is sweet as a nut. As long as you dont neglect then and keep em serviced then mileage doesnt matter. My Transit Connect has 137k on it and the van looks like it has just driven out the factory. 95% of the time my vee is doing motorway miles with the engine barely going over 3000rpm.

If you think that buying a car with lower mileage and never used will give you trouble free motoring...then think again.
 
^ I agree, but tbh it depends on what folk class low mileage as. I know of a vee on about 100 miles, to me that car will need a lot of work on it soon as it's never used.

I reckon about 5k p.a. is average for them, as long as they are used about once/twice a week & given a run they will be ok.

I fully agree about not neglecting them, staying on top of servicing etc is a must.

My mk2 is over 60K and never missed a beat!

As many have already said due to the engine size and extra power 99% get less abuse than 1_2's etc. There is just no need to rag one on the road. Effortless progress leads to much less stress. IMO there is no reason why a high mileage car isn't worth only a few K less.

But mine's not for sale.... ;)

The L7X lump suffers from head gasket problems. Once they get over 80k they can go at any time ( dependant upon how well its been looked after ) ive seen some laguna's with the L7X unit with 250k on the clock - ive seen some go at 70k. Same rule applies to most cars - look after them and they will look after you.

A good tip to prevent the above is have the coolant system flushed and replenished with the official Renault coolant type D every 50k.

The PK6 gearbox ( used in most Renaults ) is a troublesome transmission and requires oil changes every 10k in my opinion ( 75/80's semi synth ) a similar gearbox is fitted to the Laguna, Traffic, Master, Espace and Vel Satis.

I did most the mileage in mine in the first yr...I loved every minute of it, but regret it now...bought it on 23k now on 42k. Only did 2k in it this yr.

To be honest, rather than mileage, if I was in the market for one I'd be looking for a standard mint example. The one in the ad is far from standard, the wheels and exhausts ruin it for me :(

Sorry.. utter pish... If the car has been looked after and is how it should be with lower milage, and the price reflects the miles.. no problem at all to sell. Considering its a vee in the first place.. lol

Mine's on 40k and is runs terrific. Agree with the 5k a year rule, add regular maintenance in and you're onto a winner :)

The only problem with keeping the mileage down is the fact that these cars are too addictive. All you want to do is drive it...!
