Im currently breaking a clio and as expected some of the bolts are rusty, the two bolts on one side of the bonnet have snapped leaving the thread in the hole, whats the best way to remove them?, i dont think i could get mole grips on them? any ideas are much appreciated
i was thinking about welding something on actually, shoudnt be too hard as we have a welder at work, drilling it out and fitting a helicoil kit would b the last option, im pretty useless considering i work as a metal turning engineer LOL
Reverse tap is normally the best route if it can be done...
Otherwise, if the head is very easy to access, I've found that a bit of 3 in 1 oil, some heat, putting a groove in the remaining bolt (with a grinder of a line of small drill holes) and then painstakingly winding it out with a flathead screw driver is the way.
is the bonnet off the car now? If so you could use a centre punch and a hammer to gently tap the bolt anti clockwise. Or drill a hole smaller then the bolt say 4mm then colapse the bolt in on itself, or you could use an easy out, although I've never had much luck with these.
