how do i remove oil filter easy phase 1 16v

  clio 16v
Again working on my girlfriends Clio 16v 1995 and WTF were renault thinking when squashing that filter there lol

Any tips on getting it out easy? can barley get my hand in so cant get a good hand grip to take it off by hand.

My therory was taking radiator off and moving it forward to get hand down at it plus me tools. but that needs so much work ie top metal work and probably bonnet off too.

haynes says its easy enough to get at.. yeah right!

get an oil filter removal tool. Makes it lots easier as they're long and designed to reach into the hard places.

or get a big screwdriver and a hammer, pierce the filter and remove.

Its at an odd angle to get screw driver in etc. and the length id need would probably mean not much room to turn but savagery may be the way lol

And i couldnt get the oil filter removal bit in i have, its a socket type metal one so quite bulk and hard to posistion with such little room, you reckon the belt type one would work?

cant belive i have to ask for such a simple job, takes me 15 mins on me saxo lol

the tool i have is like a big pair of pliers, but oil filter shaped at the end with teeth to grip it.

no idea where the filter is on a Mk1, but on the F4R engines its much easier to remove the fuel rail guard first to give you more room. Maybe you can do something similar on the F7P?

uts the same place, but the inlet manifold is in the way. tbh, the best route is removing the slam panel, and pushing the rad forward or across from the passenger side.

the pliars type removal thing sounds good may look into set then, other than that aye slam panel and bonnet off to get the rad out way meh :( gay engine

see if you can get your arm in next to the headlight

though i just pay my local mechanic £20 to do my oil change :)

dont have to take the bonnet off...

Bonnet stays mounted to the scuttle panel ill be taking off though. plus its easier, hate back to front bonnets lol anyone sensing my hatred of the engine :p :quiet: love the car just dont like working on it lol

Aye garage sounds best best ,but we already paid for the filter and oil so be waste of money paying for it to be done. next time i probably will ship it off to garage down road

I usually get the filter off by putting a screwdriver through it and then if I can't get it out the bottom I take out by the headlight where there is a gap between teh headlight and radiator. If you can't get it through the gap you can remove one of the bolts at the top holding the radiator on which allows you to make the gap a bit bigger. It's a bit of a bugger of a job but once you've done it a couple of time you realise the best ways to do it and it becomes not so bad.

Just get a leather belt..wrap it round and you can twist it off..using the belt as a lever.

Sweet i have 3 spare. cheap too lol

ta everyone looks like i got busy weekend. 2 oil changes, 3 coolant changes now im clued up.

Don't put a hole in the filter.
