How do I tell if my 172 has an alarm and are they easy to fit?

I always thought my mk2 172 would have an alarm but I lifted the bonnet the other day when the car was locked on the fob and nothing happened. Is this right?
How difficult would say a Toad AI606 be to fit as they are only £102 on the 'bay.

I think there should be little microphone-like sensors on each of the front windscreen pillars if you have an alarm. Fitting one, I've no idea.

Try and open the door the very second you unlock the car with the keyfob, works everytime on mine, or try and lock someone inside?

That^^^ or if you're still not sure.

Lock it with the windows open and you outside. Wait 30 seconds and stick your arm in, if the alarm goes off - hey presto - if not, Toad Ai606 will suffice and then some.

Yours is most likely a import (as my 172 is). Nothing wrong with imports, but iirc they only came with an immobiliser fitted. Should'nt cost much to get a alarm fitted. I had a toad fitted to my Alfa 155 it was only about £150.

I thought it may be an import as in the service book there is some sort of dutch dealer stamp. Do my insurance company need to/already know about this?
