How does a re-map improve low down torque??

  Clio 182 cup
From some posts I've been reading, am I correct in saying that a re-map improves torque in the lower rev range?

Please correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the car in closed loop mode at lower RPM? If so this would mean that the adjusted maps aren't being used as the O2 sensor will be in communication with the ECU to keep the AFR as close to optimum as poss. I was of the understanding that the adjusted maps would only be used at higher RPM or more throttle, so I can't understand how low down torque is improved?? Can someone clarify this one for me??

Cheers guys

Alan

i cant comment technically ....... but before the remap and after the remap i can tell that car was more responsive lower down and it felt quicker , so too say the remap brought all the modifcations together very well would be true

Mine makes the same peak torque as a std 172 but instead of 5k+ mine makes 144ft/lb at 2500...175ftlb at peak proven on 2 different RR 6 months apart....not just remap but as said it brings all the little mods togeather nicely lol

So still no explanation then?? Am I correct in saying the RS's will be in closed loop low down in the rev range?

Is it torque that seems to see the best improvements with a remap rather than bhp??

Fred, i'm also looking to get my 182 checked over by a specialist and I think your the man (also the closest :) ). Couple of problems/changes :

Got a clicking/creaking clutch pedal.
Starting issues first thing in the morning, starts first time second go. Poss the coolant or TDC sensors.
Want an oil and filter change with Silkolene.

Is the clutch etc something you can sort Fred??

Cheers

Igster, you are best speaking to somone in the know, like anyone at GDI, you'll only get vague answers off here for a question like that unless one of the tuners come on and answer it.

With remaps from experience you should gain power accross the rev range, obviously peak power and torque will look like the biggest increase, it doesn't always tell the full story. You only have to look at a tuned F4R Vs a tuned F7R and while the F4 makes more impressive peak figures the F7 will have a better spread of power and ultimately be better on the road and track.

Yeah mate I understand what your saying. I would think that peak power and torque would be the areas you see biggest gains and I can now understand why after reading about AFR's. High up the rev range (i.e peak) is going to look to the new maps that will have been programmed in. This is fine.

Its low down i'm struggling to understand and like you say one of the tuners may be able to help.

well I cant really answer it mate, my knowledge on mapping is limited, I've just seen a lot of graphs and been on many RR days over the years, so seeing what mods people get you kinda get a feel for what they go from and too.

PM BexGDI for a definitive answer though.

Ok to send you a PM to book it in Fred, or shall I call you tomorrow? Might have a chat about one of you exhaust systems too, feeling tempted my standard doesn't sound brilliant at the mo.
