How essential is it that I get cam belt replaced now?

That's pretty incredible, most mechanics around my area offer you a seat in their "lounge area" with a selection of FHM magazines from 1998 and a nice portion of snot on the seats, I will definitely be having a word with those guys!

I'm very tempted to get it lowered at the same time (lol this was supposed to be a money saving vehicle after i've sold my Saab 93!) - is the general consensus to whack it on Eibach springs, that's 30mm right?

I like the car to just be sitting a little over the top of the wheel, not dropped on it's arse, what's my best option?

Just out of interest, how important is it to get the full Aux kit?

I bought a Aux belt off of eBay last year and got it fitted at the beginning of the year. As far as I know, they only fitted the belt and not the full kit.

Opinions?

If the aux belt goes it can take the cambelt with it. So id say quite important

You could go to the mechanic I use in Milnsbridge. Great prices and top work. He's done everything on mine since I got it in 2007. Wouldn't go anywhere else tbh. Did my cambelts 18 months ago now.

I'd recommend getting the kit replaced. The aux belt tensioner was pushing my aux belt of the pulleys, it frayed which eventually took the cambelt with it. Keep a check that the aux belt is central on the pulley.

bit of judgement needed TBH, low miles and no play or noise from the idlers then they'll be ok for quite some time. If it's done lots of miles then probably should be changed. Increasingly common that it's needed though.
As an example, if it's had cambelt and aux kit done, then done 20k in 3 years after, I'd just change the aux belt. If it's never been done, then it'll almost certainly need a kit

No probs, I know how much belt fails cost now (after finding out the hard way), will certainly be keeping a close eye on the belts in the future.

I've always been on top of the belts (Had the Cambelt changed last year as soon as I got the car) and also got the Aux belt replaced in January - but always was under the impression that it was just the belt and no tensioners etc.

The garage would of picked it up if the tensioners and pulleys were failing (reputable French car specialist in SE Essex) and would of let me know I would of imagine - but it's always good to keep an eye on it.

Is it easy to see / reach to inspect?

you can get to the lower idler to see if there's any movement to worry about very easily. just reach under the bumper. doesn't tell you everything, but it's a good indication

Without going through all my paper work it was about £270 or something. Top person to deal with and although not a Clio specialist he is a Cambelt specialist so knows what he's doing... He's just in the middle of restoring his 400bhp odd Trans-Am at the min. Smokey and the bandit style lol.
