how much should it cost to drop in a second hand engine?

If paying a garage to do it I'd guess 350-400 labour, then fluids etc on top. Plus if you taking the engine out probably best to fit a new clutch if it hasn't had one.

I would say with all the above 600-650 at a guess without engine.

Id be doing belts etc too unless the new engine comes with verifiable history.

Did an engine swap on a 172 with new clutch on Monday. Started at 9am... by 12.30 engine was on the floor, box off, new clutch fitted and it was in, fluids replaced and running again for 17.30

Admittedly swapping ancils and brackets does add loads of time though but compared to the Mk1's these are simple.

Dan, the A/C pump and even the PAS systems don't have to be drained/opened up. You can leave it all connected up and let the ancils hang in the bay and pull the lump from above with ease

SLightly off topic here guys, but Ive just fitted a second hand engine in my 1.4 16v '02 and struggling to figure out the aux belt. engine is fitted so are the ancillaries etc but this belt is baffling me. Do i have to get the special kit to do it? Cheers
