personally all i care about my car is how the engine sounds. if it sounds crap then my car is crap.
anyways back to the task at hand. the one massive mistake for anybody to do to their car is to fit a 4" exhaust or worst still two or even four of them. they may look ok but they give out the worst tractor engine noise ever.
if you like people to look at your car when you driving down the street a roarty engine note will have people staring at you. well i look at cars with a nice noise. the simpliest way is to fit an induction kit and not a massive exhaust. the exhaust spoils the noise of the induction.
k&n, pipercross, bmc, green and maxpower lmao all make desent induction kits which will improve the performance of your car and also give it a good engine note.
if you want to go a step further then throttlebodies will make a bigger difference. basically a throttlebody is to modern engines what carbs were 'back in the day' so if you want your car to sound like the legendary mk2 escorts then a bank of throttlebodies are the way to go. the only downside is the price, you can pay anything from £750 upwards for throttlebodies.
now the tailend of the problem, the exhaust. many boyracers love having waste paper baskets as exhausts and use the term 'bigger is louder' but bigger also means their car will sound like a tractor. a decent sports exhaust or even a custom made stainless system will make a nice exit tone.
do not flame me as i am only 16 years old but i am already modding my clio . i have a bmc cda on my car with a stainless steel sytstem with a tailbomb and it sounds gorgeous
