how well does your 172/182 handle in the wet?

  Ph2 172
was driving my 172 in the wet for the first time today and found it was understeering quite a bit, don't know whether it's the tyres (avon z 3's front and exalto's on the back) or just normal for the car? My old vts was a bit twitchy, but not as bad as the 172

ideally you'd have the same tyre design with good tread depth all round.

I'd check your tread, pressures (33f 31r) and just go a bit easier into the corners, power out where grip's available.

Hope this helps

yeah, the tread and the pressures are all fine, checked them at the weekend. I wasn't ragging it or anything, i was just getting a feel for how it went in the wet. Thought it might have been a bit easier to handle than it was

I had some Avons, wasn't impressed with them tbh. Understeer is ALWAYS an issue on FWD cars, but your tires are going to have a large impact on that.

Personally i'd put your PE2's on the front if your understeer is worrying you.

I did wonder about the avon's. Ive never used them before and they didnt seem that great in the dry either. It doesn't so much worry me, as I did expect it to an extent, with all that power going through the front wheels. Just wanted to check it was normal really

It's excellent in the wet (provided you have the right tyres for it).

Eagle F1 GSD3's are simply FANTASTIC. They warm-up and get gorgeously sticky.

Winter/wet weather doesn't slow me down much... Stability program is OFF when I'm tear-arsing.

handles better than the old un did I reckon, on 205 45 16 exalto 2's and lowered on sportlines right enough the old one was standard!!!

Cheers for all the feedback, I think I might go for the Eagle's when the Avon's need replacing then, used to have some before and found them excellent. The only thing I didn't like about them was the lack of rim protection, is this still the case?
