Identify the noise...

Over the past 7 days the bullet has started making a rather loud secondary noise in addition to the cherry bomb roar.

The noise is a deep drone which increases/decreases with speed. I can't feel any wheel wobble but have noticed the car trying to pull me to the offside quite harshly on motorways.

I suspect it's a wheel bearing, a rear one at that.

My question is, can a wheel bearing failure rear it's head in less than a week and would the pulling indicate my diagnosis is correct?

The wheel bolts are tight by the way.

Sweet lord, Daz is going to kill me. Should be in Suspension, wheels... I think.

not sure about the pulling, but when my wheel bearing was on its way out the noise came from nowhere. sounded suspension related for some time, before making the characteristic whirring noise.

Len get the back end jacked up and spin the wheels as fast as you can by hand, then put your ear to the wheel and have a listen.

That's the plan Tom. Does it sound like a bearing from what i've mentioned so far?

Would rear bearings require new rear discs or can I press new ones into the old discs?

Yeah it does mate, as Beef says. I remember my old car, nothing the night before then one morning down the road RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE quite loud.

Depending where you buy them you can press new bearings into the discs. Renault probably will try to sell you rear discs.

Sounds like it could be a bearing to me too. One of mine was making a rather loud droning noise for ages before it eventually started whining like a b**ch. Had to replace all 4 of the darn things one after the other too. Grrrrrr. lol
