In Car Screens Good/Bad

To anyone who has a screen in their car....

Do you use it? I am deperately trying to justify buying one, something like a Kenwood M700 probably, slidey out of the dash screen connected I guess to a dvd changer and maybe a tv tuner, How much do you peeps use yours?

Advice and comments would be appreciated.

Also considering the Pioneer 6500DVD as its under a grand and has DVD built in!

Its not face off. It has high probability of getting stolen. Only useful if you want to impress at a cruise (and it will take a lot more than one screen), spend a LOT of time in traffic jams (and is still unsafe) or have small children and you need to shut them up.

Waste of time IMHO. Just to show off.

Fair point, I dont go to cruises so not finding reasoning yet! Still feeling the urge tho!

More advice comments please??!!

Its one of those things that you feel the urge to buy, and really want and then never end up using it. If you are being bruitally honest wiht yourself you can prolly count the number of times in a month that you will use it

Just get a cheap TV from a caravan and stick in in your passengers feet. Easy to wire up to 12V battery in the boot if you want and way bigger screen.

hehe cheers everyone keep em coming tho, if I thought I could do it on the cheap I wouldnt think twice but I know that I will want to do it the expensive way and then........

If only there were a way of installing a cheap screen nicely and without it looking crap!!

I installed a Pioneer AVH9500DVD today into cliosport16vs (Has car) mint bit of kit with face off and built in DVD single slot!!!!

6.5inch touch screen with dts and dolby 5.1!!!! sounds the bollox!!!! (Think it cost £960)

Ive got a Pioneer AVH6400R (i think) in mine with 6disc changer (cost me £765) and PS2 hooked upto it (cost inc PS2 was about £260)

all the pioneer units are face off, plus amazing quality!!!! Highly recommend!!

As for usage, i dont really use mine that much, but its good to have for bragging rights down the pub!!!!!

"hey, i have a TV and PS2 in my car" you should see peoples faces!!!!

I got 3 tvs in my car and they are on permanently,

i seem to be the only one who has done this but get a dvd recorder watch mtv kiss etc onsky and copy your favourtie songs then whilst driving you can listen to them with the videos as well? I love it!

I drove with mine on all the time.. Sat Nav mainly, but because I had to keep moving it when I parked up, it soon got boring.

I ended up never using it.. so selling it all now. If it was a more permanent thing, Id use it all the time.. shame you cant leave things on show in ya cars nowadays.

I have a screen in my valver! :)

Dont hardly use it at all but its still worth every penny for the reaction you get when somewhen gets into your car and is amazed to see it!! :) lol

I wanted a touch screen slide in and out sat nav/cd controls one. Never found one anywhere near cheap enough. A bit pointless really, especially when I spend most of my driving time going down the same routes as I always do.

DTWD: yeah same here, still dreaming!

Think I have decided what I am going to go for tho. Im in the process of upgrading my pc so I am going to keep the old bits, try and get hold of a small pc case and install it in the car, add a 7/8" touch screen monitor from ebay (180quid) and away we go, That way I get DVD, access to all my Divx films, can play all my mp3 collection too. Using the aux input lead form kenwood can utilise the cd changer socket to get the sound into my main system and if I add a wireless network card I can access it from my home pc and update files etc.

Trying to decide at moment between getting a split charge system and a Optima Red Top in the boot, or just replacing the main battery with a yellow top. If I dont go for split charge will have to get a UPS to allow the pc to stay on after car is turned off so I can link up wirelessly and transfer files.

Any thoughts/comments??
