hey peeps im needing a new processor. at the mo i got a athlon xp 3500.which is 2.2 ghz. im needing a faster one as this is the only bit that lets down my computer. it needs to be cheap as poss aswell as im not on cs wage

what doyou guys recomend?

I had the AMD 5200+ Dual Core Processor (same sort of speed) that I have just swapped for a 9950 Quad Core, so can recommend the one above

You'll have to remove the heatsink, but yeah... If you don't know how to remove a heatsink there's a good guide I found ages ago on youtube:

u'll have to do cpu and the motherboard to get anything decent nowdays.

but .....

ive got AMD 6400 and thats on vista premium and 3.5gb ram and it's plenty fast enough.

i run twin screen and several music prduction programs as well as visual all at once and never have a problem.

you may not need to go that high, but if your gonna upgrade the cpu it worth doin it to at least say two years ago near top spec products just so that say 1:- you upgrade to something that can handle all the newer technology. And 2:- it's fairly cheap coz in computer terms new stuff is released every 6 months at least so if its 2 years old it's like 4 year in human years if that makes sense.

AFAIK 939 came along with the X2/X2 64, which is what he has. The first post said he had an athlon xp, which were never 939. Anyway confusion over

so yeah a simple processor is all you need and prob a dual core from 3500 upwards would be basically double what you have now.

exactly, by the sounds of it your in for a new processor, ram and motherboard, plus if your psu is s**t youll need a new one, and depending on your gpu's socket you might need a new one.
