inlet manifold matching

ive heard a bit about this now and seems quite popular. im keen on it as its not noticeable that its done to anyone, doesnt make the car sound any different etc.

but.... for the guys who have had it done, what sort of gains if any am i going to make from this? is it worth the 170 odd quid? and where did you get it done:cool:

ben r, the finish is superb, you can see the care thats gone into rewoking it. gains.... well if your existing manifold has alot of flahing around it, you will be loosing power on a stock engine, so you will see good gains... minimum 4-5 bhp if your casting is pretty good, i've read reports of 10 bhp + if your stock one is pretty bad

hmm seems worth doing is ben r the angelworks bloke?

how long does it take to fiot a manifold? i know a bloke who will fit it for me
 
I am the angelworks bloke yes lol.

We've seen gains of 13bhp from the manifold alone on poor examples.

Fitting a manifold takes about an hour.
 
i am getting this done nick at hillpower said the earlier mk2 had a very poor set up and the better gains can be gotten from these which is good for i suppose!! i just need to save to get the group n ecu done at the same time!! anyone had this done and can comment on the manifold work cheers

dont u HAVE to get ur whole thing remapped if u do this? i wanna get one once i got my other bits done soon. or do u just bolt new manifold on and give it some death?

Inlet Manifold Matching = Dremel (?) A few spanners and a couple of hours. Anybody that tell you anything else is just after your hard earned.....
Ask them what they actually do....

hes not trying to say he doesnt do that is he?

but he knows how to do it accurately and has a fair bit of practice under his belt doing it.

and when you f**k it up you have to buy a new one...

BenR can do this beyond any standard you could hope to achieve doing it at home with dremel. Plus, I would guess most people, myself included, cant be arsed to spend a few hours doing it ourselves.

To some1 who knows what there doing and have the right tools....an hr is a solid effort!!!

Need new gaskets too.

i got to get one of these now. was gonna wait and get decat then get bored and then get this but i think im gonna go the whole hog this month - lowered, decat, refurbed turbines and one of these inlet beasts.

Dan, do you fancy giving me a few tips on how to do this? I have a spare inlet manifold, and as it didnt cost alot, I am gonna give it a go. Do you just grind out to the size of the gasket?

I know everyone is gonna say goto to BenR , you dont know what you are doing. But I'm skint and bored.lol.

Have a serch for BenR's old posts he gave an idea what sort of stuff he does ie mathcing the gasgets to the manifold etc I think.

If youve got MSN it'll be easier! but yes i'll give tips. on the disclaimer that if it f***s it up im at no fault.

matching the opening is easy enough IF you have the right tools....a dremmel certainly isnt what u want. but there is more to it than simply matching gaskets....when i work them, i do so a good couple of inches into the casting...this sort of area could easily cause detrimental flow patterns due to incorrect shape etc....like i say, matching them is the easy bit.

i didnt say there was....

i was quoting that there is more to it than "matching gaskets".

ive actually stopped using the gasket on the head face. what i now do is match perfectly the two bodies using engineers blue, then use carefully positioned RTV sealer to joint the two pieces.
