Insurance thread for young 1*2 owners

Basically, I shopped around for insurance quotes online and found a really competative one with performance direct - £1978.

Anyway i thought great, i can get my 182 earlyer than i thought.

Looked round for one, found a mint example off a member on here and put a deposit down on it.

Rang them up to verify everything, was about to confirm policy start date for end of this month and pay up when they tell me that there is a proviso on my policy - I have to have had some experiance with a car like this in the past.... Erm ok?

Guy: what car do you drive atm?
me : a crappy 1.2
Guy : let me just check that for you sir
Guy : Thats not acceptable experiance
Me : Yeh i know but your online quote never mentioned that and neither did ur rep last time i rang for a quote.
Guy: Sorry sir.

They have now put me through to somet called call connect where they put me through to loads of different insurers. All failing me hard (My last quote was 6k+:dead:

Moral of the story - double/tripple/quadruple check all the ins and outs of your policy before you start putting deposits on cars.

Need to cross my fingers now and hope i get something "reasonable"

Performance Direct are local to me, i've always found them crap in the past. Their quotes are way over what anyone else wants, and they claim to be proper specialists. They may be a broker too, i'm not sure though.

If it runs out soon, i'd leave them & get a quote elsewhere. Whenever I look to change I get my quote and then ask how much it'll be for whatever car I may fancy in a few months time.

Same. They couldn't quote me less than 3k and the guy didn't believe I got a quote off privilege for less than 1k.

I always feel an idiot ringing and them asking my age (19) and then asking what car i want to be insured on.

think i payed £2800 for my 172 2 years ago. Not sure what i payed this year, its up for renewel next month tho, should be interesting. i would love an upgrade or even a down grade to reduce costs, i would miss it too much tho!

Watch out for the ecxcess on it, it comes stacked anyway - so if you put in £300 voluntary it'll be a lot more than that.

Add you ma/aunt to the policy too (if they have a clean licence)

elephant always best for me, up the excess up really high and put both parents on the policy, that normally brings it right down for me.

Im so fooking happy i can't describe it.

Fully comp with brent car with unlmited cosmetic mods (Cage/coils/alloys etc)




£2300 I know to some of you old ones out there its steep but im over the moon lol!

Im gonna try add someone to the policy to make it cheaper aswell.

The funny thing was, when he did the quote for a standard 182 he said it came up 5000 pounds, so he told them i had mmodified it (alloy wheels and an induction kit) and i got that price

Conclusion: If you want a cheaper insurance quote - modify your car

Surely coils aren't cosmetic as they alter the geometry and handling of the car??

They siad i can do anything to it i like as long as the power doesn't exceed 182 bhp at the fly wheel. so that means i can add a zorst and air filter as 182's are underpowered anyway. il just send them the RR printout

I pay 1400 ish on my 182. Worth it imo!
Considering my old 1.2 was about 90 quid cheaper..
