I would'nt upgrade in your situation at all unless you've got the spare cash :)

Yeah i think upgrading is a bit of a waste, not very green is it! Recycling a 6month old phone is a bit of a shocker, ill wait until i see an '4' first the just wait until the 's' comes out ha!

Some early info about Tesco's tarrif (taken from someone over on moneysavingexpert forum)

Went into my local Tesco superstore which has a phone shop. They will be having the iphone 4 in on Thursday. Will only be on contract. They will not be doing PAYG. The 3gs will be discontinued as of June 30th. Info not on display yet. Details were on a sheet they had been given. I'm going for the 16g on 12 month contract 750mins, unlimited text, 1gb internet, price of handset £229. The 32g is priced at £299. They will be on sale from 9am but stock won't be loads so was advised to get there early!

Update seems good. Liking the folders thing. Simple effective idea. :)

It actually all seems quicker as well.

Please don't shoot me down for a noob question, i have done my best to read through the thread and have been keeping an eye on it since it was started but...

If i want the iPhone 4G on O2 contract do I have to go the O2 shop or can i go to one of the other mentioned stocklists such as Carphone Warehouse or Apple?

Since you asked nicely, I shall not explode into a torrent of iRage.

Yes, you can. But not from Apple. SIM-Free from Apple only.

And Apple are sold out anyway, so no soup for you.

OMG! I've just realised what a stupid question that was, of course you can get phones on O2 contract from other phone shops! What a tw*t.

At least i know not to bother going to the Exeter Apple store anyway.

God knows what i am going to do though. I'm not working thurs or friday so at least i have some kind of advantage

I'm about to update to iOS4 but getting a message saying "There are purchased items on the iPhone that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone".

I've done File > Transfer purchases from iPhone but message is still coming up. Any ideas or should I just go ahead and update?

Really random question but what do you need to start a contract, is it ID and a bill or something?

I may end up with 2 contracts at this rate... £80 a month fml.

On the O2 website it says you need 2 forms of ID with your address on, i'm assuming bills and things are fine even though they don't have a photo

I've installed iOS4, took a while, but now my mms settings wiped off.

Now sorted. Its going slower than normal, but nothing major. Liking the folders and the sharper look.

Bucko - Our O2 store is opening at 8:02 on Thursday. If youre really keen for one then I'd get there for around 7am and hope it's not busy...

If it's busy outside O2, at least you can check out Phones4u and Carphone Warehouse really quickly too.

Question for you guys which hopefully hasn't already been answered

Getting a brand new 16gb iPhone 3GS today through my insurance policy as I dropped and smashed my old one :(
That's going on ebay - and with the money I raise I'll get an iPhone 4 on pay day (which is next wednesday 30th June)

Can I buy an unlocked sim-free one from my local O2 if I pop in at lunch and reserve one for that day - or do I have to go to apple

I tried to reserve an iPhone to collect at meadowhall apple store - but they've taken the iPhone off of the reserve and collect list :(

I can't even pre-order one from apple as it's saying it wont ship until July 14th :(

If its going to be a month before I can get hold of one - I think I might have to unbox my new 3GS and use that for a while as I can't really go a month using my old nokia 8310 lol

Few things this morning:

-You can opt out of iAd altogether apparently by visiting http://oo.apple.com from your iPhone.

-It seems as though 4.0 hasn't escaped the growing bug list that seems incumbent with every Apple major release:

• The update to iOS 4 never installs and simply reboots your device endlessly.

• Update deletes all contacts, which are not restored in backups.

• Photos that you have synced to your device with iPhoto are extremely blurry.

• Broken MMS and Push Notifications.

• Auto-lock set to one minute with no option to change it.

Apparently Apple have also changed their T&C in the last 24 hours, making changes to their privacy policy. They're now within their rights to track and use location data from your device (though must be anonymous I'd assume?) for iAd targetting.

Other news, ultrasn0w is now updated and works in 4.0 meaning you can unlock your phone again.

4.0 seems pretty minor on my GF's 3G, I've been through literally every menu side-by-side with my 3.1.3 phone and aside from the odd change it's pretty much bang on identical, certainly nothing to write home about.

It does royally piss me off though that Apple have prevented the 3G using wallpaper, there's absolutely zero justification for it, or maybe the CPU can't handle it . The multi-tasking IMO also looks dogshit, far too many steps to activate/deactivate it and it seems clear that a massive amount of people are going to be running apps in memory without knowing it [other than dire battery life]. Backgrounder seems a much more user friendly, obvious, and customisable affair, animated icon to show it's backgrounded and it's a single button press to turn it on or off.

I'll be sticking with 3.1.3 until app compatibility force me to update it.

iOS4 works 100% fine for me. Downloaded in 5 mins, installed on iPhone in about 15-20mins.

multi-tasking looks great! Hoff, think you need to read a bit more on how multi-tasking works, as your statement above about it is incorrect.

Ermmm the multi tasking is just a double click to bring up the list of running apps - and also the "running" apps aren't really running and don't diminish battery life

Do some research ;)

Managed to jb my 3G ios4 last night. Enables native multitasking and home screen wallpaper. And of course cydia.

Awesome :)

TBH, all i'm actually enjoying is the collated gmail conversations in mail - the rest of it is a bit of a gimmick. The folders thing is ok, but it's nothing groundbreaking.

It lost a lot of my settings, some of the pictures look blurry, some Apps aren't actually updating and my favourite mini golf app won't load anymore. Wish i'd stuck with 3.13 for the timebeing.

Front is white, back is white.

I've been running OS4 for a long time now.
Some of the betas had usual bugs but the last release is super stable.

One bit of advice;

DO NOT UPDATE. RESTORE RESTORE RESTORE.
